Outside TEMPERATURE READING now off by 10-20 degrees.

My outside temperature reading started to read off by 10-20 degrees recently(last couple months/ weekly driving) Is there an easy way to clean or otherwise check the thermometer? Where is it located?
 
I know that it can be done as my buddy has a candian model 95. Not sure on the exact sequence, try google. I think its like you have to turn the fan to high and press the 2 outside buttons at the same time or something like that.
 
Quoting from the Ford service manual:


The SATC Control Assembly will display the set temperature in either ° F or °C. To change the display, set the Function Selector Knob at MAX A/C and rotate the Fan knob to the HI position. Then, simultaneously press the COOL, WARM and OUTSIDE TEMP buttons and hold depressed for 3/4 second before releasing.
