Summer's in high gear folks, and it's time to start thinking about the upcoming 10th anniversary SC Shootout. That's right, 10 years of this stuff!

Where: Clay City, Kentucky and surrounding area. (https://maps.google.com/maps?saddr=Hampton+Inn+Winchester,+Early+Drive,+Wi nchester,+KY&daddr=Mountain+Park+Dragway,&hl=en&ll=37.941761,-84.05056&spn=0.219042,0.308647&sll=38.010298,-84.170793&sspn=0.003419,0.004823&geocode=FXT-QwId8ab7-iET06Mp6p1N2SlJsi455LFDiDG6TEL_1e487g%3BFd6JQQId9o L_-iGA-YsK1bDGhimleo0RkZ9DiDFAcwuH4Bf4Xg&oq=hampton+inn&t=m&gl=us&mra=ls&z=12)

Call now to make hotel reservations. Group access code "SCS". (859) 745-2000

When: September 29-30, 2012.

If you haven't made plans for that weekend yet, now is the time!

No rules changes this year so pick you classes ahead of time! All cars will be welcome in bracket classes, MN12's only in the heads up classes. Indexes will stay the same.

Planning on a big car show / get together on Saturday, racing on Sunday.

I can confirm the rate is $102, but you may have to ask for it. It's tied to the group and isn't easily seen on their screen. So if they quote you a different price just tell them you were told the group rate is $102 and you should be okay.

And from the way this guy was speaking it sounds like they are already getting pretty well booked for this so I suggest you don't waste any time if you plan on coming. Don't get shut out and have to look for a room the week before the event!

David,
It looks like the same place we all met for the KY Horsepower fall race. Up on the hill I think. Not sure if this is where you are thinking or not. I didn't see a lot of room for trailer parking though, but I only saw the front doors last time.

Whelp some good and bad news...bad news first. This "rookie award" winner from last year, won't be attending the shootout this year. On the other hand, we are expecting a baby in January so saving $$$ is our top priority right now :) Hope everyone has a great time!

Congratulations!! :) We just had our first in December...he'll be attending his first Shootout this year! Michigan would've been too far for us to drive last year, expecting a baby and all, so you staying at home this year is understandable. You'll be missed!

That reminds me: Connie, like we talked last Sept, we'll need a 12mo-sized 10th Anniversary SC Shootout onesie in addition to the two regular tee's we always get. :D

Smitty,

Yeah, that's the place I'm talking about. Hopefully we can find some space to park all these trailers.

Since they screwed up my email address, I didn't get a confirmation with a street address. I just called them back and got the following address.

Hampton Inn, Winchester

Smitty, I talked to the hotel when I made reservations and she said that people often park trailers along the street without any issues. It looks to be a no outlet street, so traffic is basically for a few hotels and I think a car dealer.

it looks like there's some open field areas by the hotels, maybe they'll let you pull a truck/trailer onto the grass.

If you really want to be there, just book a room and tell her you are going and she is welcome to join you. It's easier to ask for forgivness than permission. You will both have a great time.

Just wanted to thank those on the organizing commitee for the time devoted to pulling things together.

I did a quick check on last years release of info and it appears were well ahead time wise.

Its an important milestone for the club and its obvious the group doing the organizing want this years ShootOut on the front burner.

12 weeks at $50.00 per should make it affordable savings to insure attendance for most.

Car prep well thats another story.:)

Look forward to sharing some pops in the parking lot.

I'd like this year to really look around, and focus on who we are, where we've been, and where we're headed. It's not that 2012 is the end of the road (well maybe for the Mayan's among us) but this is definitely a milestone.

I'm thinking about making it out to the shootout but a little worried about taking my 194,000 mile SC since I can't trailer it  I may have to take the UnderBird, though right now my mind is somewhere else as I lost my best friend on fathers day but I think if he was here right now he would be telling me to go. I'm down to make a down payment for a track rental...come on guys I'm guessing we need more people to sign up so we can do this. It's going to be awesome if we can rent the track out!

There is no cell phone reception in my work except for my company provided Nextel Blackberry, which is tied to the corporate internet. A new phone won't help me until if/when they install repeaters for other carriers.

Something I have always had a hard time understanding, is with respect to the Shootout, people arriving "just in time" for lunch on Saturday, or "just in time" for the track on Sunday, or even worse yet, LEAVE at noon on Sunday.

My .02, if you are going to make the commitment to come all the way to the event, you owe it to yourself to stick around for the whole thing. Even if it means taking a day off without pay. I used to do that before this was a full time gig for me.

Jus sayin.

There are a few notable exceptions where people just can't take any more time off, or have other unavoidable commitments, but most of the time it's just people wanting to "beat the traffic rush" or "get in those extra few hours of work" or save $100 on a hotel bill. Are you kidding me?:cool::p:D

Paul,

It's generally accepted that the 5 speed cars are going to have better dyno numbers, and the automatic cars are going to have better track numbers.

Making multiple lists would probably just give us more stuff to argue about. The Shootout is really about showing what your car can do on the track, using whatever combo you have. This is the reason for breaking up the classes by range of ET, as opposed to defining what parts can or can't be used.

Maybe not a separate list, but it would be cool to have 5speed /auto called out. Also, I think dyno numbers, and v8/twin screw/roots/centrifugal/turbo call-outs would be sweet too.

My car will not compete with the twin screws, etc, but I would like to see how I'm faring against like-built or like-powered cars. It would inspire more mid-power level competition, I think. :)

I get what your saying and it seems like a reasonable request.....but I also see the other side. Let me play the devils advocate here. One list showing M90 cars, Twin Screw cars and than theres the turbo cars. Then theres the break down of auto vs manual. So I would be on two lists? The twin screw and the auto list? Just seems a little confusing to me. Would the centrifugals be under superchargers? Once someone made up the lists how many of our understanding and patient club members would agree with how they are setup?

Nah, I think one list, with additional columns would work fine. Keep it simple ya know. :)

If anyone was interested in making their own list by copy/paste into Excel, that would be an option. Really, if you had all the info published, then fit into a spreadsheet, one could sort and filter all the times based on any category. Basically, if there was just a little more info on the master list, it could be up to the site users to download the info and manipulate it.

Dave and Connie (and the Dalke youngins!) do enough work for the Shootout already, but if this would be possible, I think it would be awesome.

We've got to be careful with how much information you add as the additional columns may throw off the page formatting. A list like that would best be on a separate page with a different styling.

This is largely true.

We are keeping it very simple because none of us here know anything about web pages. Giving control over to other people to add things is not actually very constructive because they tend to start things and not finish them, or they create stuff that we don't understand and can't update later on after that person has found other things more important to do.

For some of you tech guys it's so simple "just add this, drop that, etc." Well that's not going to happen here. We need to be able to make changes on the fly which means that everything needs to be something we understand. It's not going to happen until we understand how to do it from this end.

Our "list" went un-updated for over 6 months just because I forgot/couldn't figure out how to log on to the site after the host updated software. Yes, it's that basic.

In the past, after trial runs but before eliminations, Dave will give you the chance to switch classes, if needed.

neverfastenough
08-14-2012, 07:56 AM
I know how everyone loves my opinions soooooo. I think, there shouldnt be any class switching after registration unless its to a FASTER class. If youre car has run a best of 11.5 somewhere at some time, thats what its capable of, and it should be placed in a equal or faster index if avail. If someone gets to KY and the car doesnt do that, get the lap top, wrenches, and tire pressure gauge out and fix it. And since we all mod thru the year, if you beat your personal best, you can move to a faster class.

Now if you live at sea level, and know your going to gain a tenth, or you live at 5000' well thats a different story. Most peoples bests are in dayton though it seems.

Thats just my opinion:p Im signing up for prostreet, if I run sub 11.5 Ill back off boost to fall within safety rules.

I dig it.

For someone who really doesn't know what their car is capable of, they should start out in stock class, make a few runs and pick a class. I guess there will always be ways to "sandbag", but hopefully the no-class drop rule would reduce it some....and the ET's amongst competitors (within the same class) should be more spread out, rather than having 5 cars running near the break-out limit and 2 running at the middle-bottom of the class.

Of course, there would be a few instances where someone destroyed their MPX and are now running a stock SC or something, which would legitimately cause their car to be slower.

Like last year, I doubt I will be competitive in Mod 2, but I'm going for it again. I REALLY did like being able to "buy-in" to bracket last year though. It made me feel better about diving into a class that I probably wouldn't win, but at least, could feel free to keep the pedal to the floor all the way to the finish.

My laptop and wrenches couldn't fix the hot weather last year, which is why I (and several others) had to slow down a class....believe me, I wouldn't have much rather been running in the 11's, not the 12's last year. Hopefully, the weather will cooperate and I'll be back in the 11's where I belong.

XR7 Dave

We're not making any changes or alterations to the posted rules for index classes, it just makes people upset when we do. Trophies will be purchased for every class, and class switching will be allowed up until qualifying. Be aware that you can qualify out of your class right into the grandstands, indexes will apply! Yes, you can be eliminated during qualifying.

I don't care what people run in time trials but ALL runs for the day count towards the top 100 list so never toss a time slip.

If you are planning on paying at the event, please let me know via PM or email. If you are planning to bring someone that is over 16, I also need to know for an accurate head count for food. Same goes for shirts, if you think you might like another shirt, i can add it to the order, someone will buy it if you change your mind.
Thanks,

I finally registered. I'm not really sure the exact time I will arrive since I will be leaving the United Kingdom on Sept 27th. Hopefully, I will get home in time to cruise down with the STL crew on Friday. I literally will have a plane, then an automobile, then a train, then a plane, and yet another automobile before I even make it home. I have scheduled, rescheduled and rearranged my schedule at least 10 times so I could make this 10th Anniversary event. It is hard to really believe this was all started from some banter over the internet over 10 years ago.

Anyway, I'll be rolling in the GT 500. Oh and BTW in case anyone has checked I just booked literally the last room (according to the hotel) at the Hampton.

Can't wait for all the fun times. I may have a few SC related things to donate to the raffle.

**EDIT

Casey,

Does this mean, you'll be registering and bringing something to race ?

Elite Street looks like a good class to show off what Damon's car can do.

Looks like a lot of the top 20 Shootout cars aren't registered yet.

I have no clue.. I have never bought any fuel at the track. I have always brought my own. I have always bought mine in bulk at a place in Georgetown on Thursday or Friday before the weekend I wanted to race.

ScrapSC
09-27-2012, 03:12 PM
There is a place in Georgetown that is open until 12(noon) on Friday that sells about anything you want in 5 gallon buckets. 110 fuel is $59 for 5 gallons and they sell C12, C14, C16, Q16 and many others.... He said if someone called in and let him know he could put it on a card and I could pick it up.....

Trailer parking is very poor. I've got mine backed into a grass lot with the truck still on the pavement. Got to jump the curb to get into the grass. The grass lots look more like hayfeilds that need cutting. Grown up 12"-24". Nice hotel, just parking with a trailer sucks.

Two groups have the Hotel booked for the weekend. The Thunderbird group and a country music group. This ought to get real interesting!

Let me crack another beer, it will soon be alright.

Mike,

Is there space for parking trailers in the lot of the vacant hotel directly behind the Hampton inn ?

David

EECDOC
09-27-2012, 04:09 PM
Dave, I'll take a walk and see. If there is, the lot is not directly accessable to the Hampton's lot.

There are 2 hotels behind the Hampton, a Quality Inn, that is open and has very little parking. The vacant hotel is operating and open, It's the Royal Inn. I doubt you can park there without being a quest.

I was over by the hotel about two weeks ago and the vacant lot was still vacant. Guess the buyers got it up and running finally. Would be nice it they let us park the trailers there. There looked to be plenty of room there to park.... But management at the new hotel might not like it...

XR7 Dave
09-27-2012, 07:02 PM
I thought people said last time they stayed there at they parked the trailers into the grass just like Mike said. There are about 15 spots there so if we nab them all the trucks can part there. Sorry about the curb, didn't know about that one.

The hotel said it was fine for the trailers to be on the grass there.

Yes, the Royal Inn is open. I don't have a phone #, but I imagine anyone looking for a room might be able to snag one there.

As for race fuel - the track has Sunoco 110 and 112 (as I recall, I could be wrong here). Both are leaded, both are non-oxygenated, or at least that is what they should be.

110 is Purple, 112 is Blue, unless it's Dark Green, then it would oxygenated 112. I can't imagine the race track selling oxygenated fuel, as I believe it is more expensive and messes with your tune.

The race track will also have nitrous, if anyone is so inclined.

Having a great time at the shootout. I was very impressed with the amount of power some of the v6 cars are making. I can't believe how loud the auto rotor cars are. It sounds like Satan's cat is being stepped on but their power output is impressive. I finally had a chance to put a face to the names of the people on the board. I am also equally impressed with the number of high quality cars.
