I’ve been looking for a new IC for a while and was thinking a water-air IC could fit in the stock IC location. But none of the "universal" IC on the market seemed to fit without a lot of modifications -or they were too small. So, since I had never welded aluminum before the conclusion was easy: build one
I found a suitable core at Bell Intercoolers measuring 8x6x6". This gives about the same Cross section area (+10%) as the 03 Cobra IC and the volume of the core is ~70% greater. The heat exchanger is as the IC, sized slightly bigger than the Cobra setup.
HP gain is initially about 30hp from about 270rwhp, but I still have some tuning to do to get the AFR correct (had to make a scaled tune due to EEC/SCT limits). During daily driving the inlet temperature (read from the ACT sensor) is approx. 15 degC above ambient and this rises about 3 degC in a WOT run from 0-100 km/h. I will post some before/after logs once I'm done tuning.
