Cylinder Mismatch ID...

My poor car is trying to die. It had been misfiring intermitently for a while, it got to the point where it just didn't want to run. I finaly took the time to hook up to it, and it came up with Cylinder Mismatch Id, and it also said that MFEM(something Failure Effects Mode) had engaged. I don't have my EEC4 book with me, since Im going to school right now, so I do not know everything about what could lead to a code 98.
I checked the CKP on the scope, and it came out smooth and correct. The CMP, didn't. I put a new sensor in it, and the problem didn't go away, the pattern is jumpy, and the little jumps correspond to what looks like a cylinder fire. I don't know how to post pictures here, but I still have the pattern saved on my tool.
Has anyone ran into this problem before, and is it OK to have what appears to be 30-50 thousandths back and forth movement on the cam-sensor drive gear. The shutter seems to be firmly anchored to the driveshaft, but there is a little play, is this ok?
