Saw a 91 base T-bird in the boneyard that did not have power mirrors. It had the old cable control for the drivers side, and for the passenger side, no mirror at all. It also had no power seats. I thought they all had power mirrors, and power seats. Learn something new everyday.

no power seats?? weird:confused:
A pair of non power seat tracks weigh 40 lbs less:D

I've been wanting a lighter seat for my 90 racer. I'm going to look for one myself. We've got lots of junk yards here. Thanks for the idea Cary.

I dont know why I never thought of this while looking for non power seats but, Ford Toreasses and Mercury Unstables have the same tracks I think, more of a chance the the 3.0 base models have non power tracks, they might swap over:D

Heh, I used to have an '87 Taurus. Even after putting a replacement (87k) 3.0 in it I still didn't even trust it to bring me to work. If I would have known more about cars back then I'm sure I could have done some better work to it, but I didn't. It needed new brakes, all new shocks/struts, new tires, MORE work on the heating system (after doing the heater core things just weren't the same). Actually, it was after doing the heater core that I finally gave up on the car. The car would also never have A/C again, as I had a very VERY large guy rip the system out of the firewall with his bare hands. Damn, I wish I had videotaped that!
The only cool thing about that Taurus was the fact that it was ex-government, and the transmission acted a lot different than a normal one. I didn't know anything about torque converters back then, so after hearing the car "shift" more than three times to get to OD I thought it had extra gears.
That car was fun to race on trails though :D
I'm still impressed with my Mom's 95' Sable LS. Even though it's just a 3.0, that sucker has balls.

Mercurys almost always tend to be better equipped than their Ford counterparts ... so a base Cougar will still be decently equipped. The boneyard find is probably a very base model T-Bird that was sold for a fleet or as a rental car perhaps, I have seen listings for a manual R/S mirror and manual seat tracks on an MN12 Bird, just never actually saw a car so (not) equipped !

when you say the car had "no right mirror" do you mean it had no controls for a right side mirror or no mirror on the right side at all?

well since we're on the track...I had an Unstable with a shift-kit , urethane bushings,SHO exhuast, tweaked engine;) and other crud which could pull low sevens to the 60 mark, it did it in about low 8 stock, 3.8 of course:D

Once I was surfing e-Bay Motors and I came across a 1992 Sable that someone had WAY too much fun with. They bought out a totalled 95 SHO 5 speed and transferred every SHO part possible into the Sable body. They even swapped the rear bumper cover with the SHO emblem.
Now, THAT, is what I would call one hell of a sleeper!
Back onto the junkyard subject, I should really search around Minneapolis here for some of them. All of the yards back home had next to nothing Thunderbird related.

I meant to say that where there is usually a side mirror on the outside, there was a plastic blank instead. On the door switch panel on the drivers side there was the mechanical cable control and no electric switch. Come to think of it I don't think it had door locks either. I have to get back out there with my camera and get some shots. It was raining when I was there, and I did'nt spend a lot of time out there.

thats wierd, i thought ALL mn12s had dual mirrors, maybe it was some stripper rental car or something? did it have power windows? i believe ALL mn12s had that at least,

Just havng a look at the parts listings here this morning ... for 89 - 92 Birds it shows a manual remote control L/S mirror, and with that the car would have no right side mirror ... just a blank-off plate like your punk-~~~ neighbour's Civic DX :p
And manual seat tracks for both sides are listed as well.

Speaking of weird Junkyard finds. I saw 5 different NA 3.8 V^ tbirds WITHOUT MAF sensors. I didn't know they did any of the birds without Mass air. I also saw a 90' Grand Prix Turbo (pretty rare car.

The 3.8 N/A motors didn't get the mass-air metering system until 1991 model year ... so an 89 or 90 Bird or Cougar base 3.8L would still be speed-density system.
