I'm a tool and die maker.
I think charging 800 to Change the taps on the shower and do the drain on the bathtub is too much

My company would probably charge about that. Material cost + 30% and $125 an hour. If your talking about changing the whole shower body then the parts alone are expensive. Just dont get anything at all from home depot or lowes.

It really isn't all that hard to do yourself, and you may find other DIY folks out there you can have work with you. This site might give you some tips and youtube is always full of stuff.

Effort and tool cost depends on the type of plumbing you are working with. Poly piping is becoming common in new home construction in my area. Homes from the 80's/90's and today have copper if not poly. Before that you can find galvanized and black pipe.

A real plumber should be able to get the same work done in 1/4 the time of you doing it DIY. So in the end it really depends on how you value your time.

I have all the parts and stuff for the job and the tube is all ready removed including all the dry wall. I would do it my self if it was not for the condo rules I have done it befor.

Are you actually changing the position of the drain.

New tub vs shower pan.
