I just picked up a 90 xr7 cougar 5 speed with a Blown head gasket for $400 bucks. It took me a while to find a 5 speed xr7 out here in Cali. It has 3.73 gears and short shifting Tranni. I just sent it to get the head gaskets replaced.

I'm not very Familiar with Gears and stuff, what main difference will the 3.73 gears make?

Nice find on a rare cougar. I believe there were only about 900 5-speed Cougars made in 90. As for the gears, 3.73s are too much for a 5-speed car. If it really does have them, you would be better off swapping them out for some 3.27s. 1st gear will be completely useless with the 3.73s.

I just got the Cougar back from the shop, drove it a bit and YES, 1st gear is kinda useless with 3.73 gears. Ill keep driving it like that some time and ill decide if ill leave it that way or change the gears.

Congrats on your rare 5speed cougar and that's a really good price. I grew up in San Fernando now live in Lancaster. What shop did your head gaskets? And I bet it felt nice driving that car you've been searching for

I live in Sylmar, and Hopefully moving to Palmdale next Month. Its a shop on Gleanoaks and Osborne. And yes it felt good driving it, now time to fix all the details on the interior and body.

Glad to see another member in the So-Cal Chapter. Currently my SC is down and hoping that I can get her running soon. After that hopefully we can setup some chapter meetings and activity.
