Supercharger Bypass valve bearings HELP

I tried searching first but couldn't find what I was looking for. Are these needle bearings that hold the bypass valve shaft in place replaceable? I just finished porting my plenum and would like to send it out for powder coat. I'm pretty sure I have to remove them because of the rubber seals, if so what's the easiest way?

Or has anyone Powder coated their plenum without removing the bearings?

Curious as well. Haven't looked into it really, but I'm sure the oven would bake the grease in the powder coating

I'd worry more about the seals rather than the bearings. Isn't 390º/10 minutes enough to cure? Can't the bearings handle that little?

I suspect the factory did their coating first and then installed bearings/seals, so...might be a good excuse to replace.

Seen these threads?

I was worried more about damaging the seals when removing and not being able to replace them. Ended up getting them out with a jeweler's screw driver and surprisingly they slip back in really easy. I'll send it out like this and just pack some more grease in the bearings after powder.

Thanks for those links though, I'm still going to try to source some seals just in case I get the leaks they mentioned.

I would coat the outsides/bores with blue or black silicone gasket sealer when reinstalling if they seem loose at all to help seal that surface.

Good luck and if you find seals and have time, I'm sure an update w/that info would be useful for the community :)

Good chance the bearings will fall out once it's heated. I have powder coated many with out taking them apart with no long term issues.

That's interesting. I wonder if the aluminum doesn't transfer the heat to the bearings?

I would expect the two different materials to expand/react at different rates. Heat (and cold) is a very common tool when it comes to dealing with bearing install/remove, after all :)

The bearings and seals can be bought. I had a nice thread on this quite a few years ago. Another member, S Mazza, here had the correct part number for both. I tried going back in old threads to find it but you can only go back 500 posts. This was many years ago when I actually had a M90 on the car:rolleyes:

Thanks everyone for your input. I pulled the seals out of the bearings and sent out the plenum. I'm gonna take my chances with the bearings still inside during powdercoat, but I already have my bearing supplier trying to source replacement bearings just in case, using S Mazza's part numbers.

I'll grab a few extra if I get ahold of some as well as verify/update part numbers. I'm sure there's a few guys out there who may need these if they're rebuilding/refinishing their m90.
