P0113

I had a check engine light, so I checked for codes and came up with P0113 Intake Air Temperature Sensor Circuit High Input. With a digital multimeter I verified the air inlet temp sensor was open. When I replaced the sensor with a new one, I found that the thermistor was gone. The engine runs fine even though it has ingested the thermistor. Can an engine survive an item like a thermistor without any damage?

Normally, sure. I'd expect the computer to substitute default values until it had new/reliable values to work with.

You may want to disconnect the battery for a few minutes to encourage the computer to relearn the new sensor.

It's tiny and fragile...

...not something you'd want as a steady diet, of course.

Whatever was left after entering a cylinder will melt in one of the converters, I think.
