so I have been having a check engine light come on and off while driving. it comes on when I am coasting but goes off when I accelerate. I have a code reader and it came out as 214 and mean cylinder identification (cid) sensor- circuit failure. where do I start looking.

See:

http://www.njtacc.com/tech/eec_codes.html (SC specific codes are noted)

214: Distributorless Ignition System (DIS) cylinder identification circuit failure

Do you know what the DIS is? Have you looked around under the hood to see if any wiring has been damaged? Are the grounds intact? Any work done recently? Does it start and run ok? Does the tach jump around?

Code 214 is almost always a bad cam position sensor.
