I scoured the net when I first saw this. I think this was just an exercise. I dont think its even on Fords radar or there would be more buzz about it.

If you read everything in that ad, it has quad tubro's & 600 horsepower. I don't think Ford will give it more power than the mustang, but who knows for sure..This car was just shown in Detroit to some people, and everyone loved it...so lets hope....Rich

Well the Thunderbird was originally designed to be Ford's answer to the Corvette. So maybe they are deciding to get it right this time.

Can you say Fugly uncle Fester? If Ford does bring back the Thunderbird I sure hope they do better than this in the looks department anyway.

Front overhang suggests a Fusion coupe. First FWD Thunderbird?

Looks like the successor to the 1999 Mercury Cougar, not to the 1997 Ford Thunderbird.

Not enjoying the good 12" of height between the top of the front tire and the top of the cowl.

I think that almost everything looks like a Fusion in Ford's lineup now, hahahaa.....some called the 2015 Mustang the "FuStang". Hoax or not, i'd be down for a rebirth of the T-Bird. It would be interesting to see how Ford would approach it, if they did resurrect the name.

I agree with this statement. If they did bring the T-Bird back, I think that it would have to be a rival to the Corvette and that it would have to be a personal luxury car again (although with massive HP and torque numbers), instead of the bloated land yacht that it became in the late 60's and 70's in general. I really thought that the brand had resurrected itself in 1983 and had stayed on the cutting edge (supercharging, turbocharging, IRS, four wheel discs, tuned suspension, aerodynamic and sleek styling) until the early 90's, when most cars got sucked into the aerodynamic vortex and looked pretty much identical. The resurrected T-Bird in the 00's had the right idea--two seater, sporty--but it wasn't a Corvette rival type of a car.

I think that they have to re-discover their motto, more like "personal performance car". It can still have luxurious things, but I think that they'll have to drop the idea of doing everything with a Mustang affordability, to really kickstart the brand again. I think that it has to be somewhere between a Boss 302 and a Corvette......maybe not as expensive as the 'Vette, but more expensive than the Boss 302.

Well if they followed the sales mantra of the SC then it most probably will not be as fast as there flagship Mustang but I am sure close to it. I doubt you will ever see a V8 in it and it will most likely be an ecotech turbo... I do like the look of this concept but honestly, I am not a Thunderbird fan, just a Supercoupe fan...

I agree. This just looks like what it is - a Taurus that is short 2 doors. Sorry, even 600rwhp wouldn't excite me. The T-bird needs to be a sports personal car. This just does not cut it.

I think that the concept of a really high end T-Bird could work. I think that there's too much history in the name to completely shelve it. The Cougar sort of suffered a similar fate that the T-Bird did.....the 60's Cougars were a more upscale version of the Mustang, but still with performance options. Then Ford/ Mercury had got away from that, too.

I think, if Ford brings back the Thunderbird, that it can't be a heavy pig of a car. It can't be too close to the Taurus SHO (which is neat for what it is), and it can't be too close to the Mustang (which is about to get IRS). I think the Thunderbird has to be more luxurious than the Mustang, whose weakest point has always been space comfort. But it has to be extremely stylish and performance oriented, or you might as well just buy the Lincoln MKS or something like that.

I think a new Thunderbird would be a great opportunity for Ford to try new combinations of advanced technologies. A lot of aluminum use, similar to the new F-150. Keep it light enough and it could take the Ecoboost 4-cylinder, the NA 3.5, and the Ecoboost 3.5, all of which would move it very nicely. A V8 would be a great option for the sound alone, but the V6s would do fine for power. The interior has to be luxurious - great materials, great design. But it has to be a real driver's interior - none of the silly mistakes like trip computers and touchscreens that don't dim properly, numeric phone keypads on the center stack (or pretty much anything else they did to screw up the new Focus. ;))

I think that, whatever else the Thunderbird is, it cannot be a bunt.

The Taurus SHO is already doing a good job of covering the Sport Luxury segment, so I doubt we will be seeing a new Thunderbird anytime soon. That said, I could probably get used to an Aston Martian looking pumped up rear drive Fusion style Thunderbird, so long as it was a 2 door coupe with rear wheel drive and came with the same motor options as the new Mustang does.

:DFord has been under the gun to come up with a two door bigger car that looks, drives., and handles like a fun car should. They did show off a two door car a few weeks ago to the dealer people and said it will be a "Game changer". This is what they said and put out there for all to look at... If everything goes well this is coming and there are more good things coming as well.. You all will have to start now to save your cash and wait a bit longer for what is coming down the pike....Rich:eek:

It's great, but it's not what I would call sporty. It's like driving a fast tank. I think there is room for a lighter car, one that you can see out of, whose cowl and trunklid heights fall somewhere below mid-chest on an American male. ;)

The Taurus SHO's I saw only make 365 HP. I have been eying up the Chevy SS with 416 HP. If I could only get the old lady to pay for her own car...

Could be, but then look at the new Hellcat Challenger in development at Dodge, 640HP. Thats more than the Viper. A comment that some Chrysler rep said 'Sometimes the Flagship (Viper) isn't the top dog'.

After ordering a new Ram Mega Dually w/Cummins, I won' be able to afford it:)

With the impending demise and breakup of GM over recent recalls, reports by insiders who remain unidentified because they are not authorized to speak, are that Ford will take over Chevrolet's entire product line with plans to rebadge the Corvette as a Thunderbird Sport and the Camaro as Escort GT. No word if the Cadillac division will go to Lincoln. All Chevy trucks will be EOL. Details to follow after Barra sits down with Congress.

LOL. That would sure give Henry Ford a chuckle.
