Is anyone currently producing cowling for early models, if not and I could get someone to attempt to produce some out of abs on a 3d printer how much interest/aka number of parts do you estimate would sell? Would both sides be needed or just the drivers side?

I'd get both sides designed, not sure if both would be needed.

I'd be interested - I have one good set, and that's all I've found (since most of the junkyard pickers would rather destroy plastic than disassemble things properly ... )

I think they are different between years, so total 4 products, I'd guess.

Color matched to the car would be interesting...

I've got two sets of spares. One set is a 10 and will go on my '90 later.

I thought in general late model cowling was easier to come by but the early model was gone for the most part.

So far I'd agree, but it's just a matter of time before demand for late model heats up. Build it and they will come...

Ayep.

As far as I know, there's 89-92 left, 89-92 right, 93-97 left, and 93-97 right.

Of course, if you want to get fancy, you could make the right (passenger side) to take a cabin air filter, possibly.

cabin air filter

A cowling with a cabin filter pocket would be good...

Speaking of which - I templated the intake area on the pass. side and use it to cut out sized filter material - two types/layers - I change them out twice a year and use it as an opportunity to clean/dress the cowlings.
