So i went threw the hell of a time swapping my 90 auto to a 5sp. After i switched everything over got her running good but 2nd and 3rd grind if i dont double clutch so im pretty sure i need syncros? What do u guys think. The stock brass ones or i have seen the carbon ones. Any input. Is their a difference in feel or holding up longer. I do not have a b&m rip shifter yet but i plan on gettin one. Let me know

Not an expert on the 5-speed, but I believe the stock ones are carbon fiber lined. The aftermarket, lower quality ones, are just brass. They grind a little. I think one of our members went through some work and got carbon lined ones made again. Maybe Mike8675309? Not sure.

The stock ones were not brass, they were carbon fiber. Personally I would stick with the carbon fibers ones you can get from Bill at scperformance. I do not believe you can get them from a Ford dealer anymore, I could be wrong.
One thing you can try, use synthetic ATF rather than dinosaur ATF, if you have changed the oil in the tranny already, get a 4oz bottle of Ford STINK LOL (friction modifier) and add it. It may quiet things down and buy you some time. It did for me on my 5 speed.

Cheers

Should be able to get the friction modifier from Ford, if not Bill is pretty good about providing pieces from kits

By the way that 2nd to 3rd grind is pretty typical.

For clarification, the OEM stock blockers for the M5R2/RKE were organic fiber lined. Carbon fiber blockers came along much later. Brass, that is unlined, were for the M5R2 for the F150.. a truck transmission. ;) What is available now is unlined and CF lined. Opinions vary as to the best fluid+friction modifiers to use, but most of the people here seem to have good results with the normal Dexron ATF.

I have CF blockers and pennzoil synchromesh in mine + a coupe of oz of FM. It works well but I can't compare it to ATF.

Hey TBird nice to see you're still around :D

I have heard various syncromesh fluids work well and don't need the Ford STINK, I never tried it but hear the GM syncromesh is good too.

I recommended the Ford STINK because he would have just changed his tranny oil and that stuff does quiet down grinding but it's only a temporary solution for awhile before having to change syncros

Cheers
Les

After I had mine rebuilt I used Synthetic ATF and FM ,worked fabulous for years till I got rid of the Cougar.
