Crank Sensor

Hello everyone, not exactly a SC owner, but I have a 1990 SC engine that I'm dropping into my 96' Mustang. I have a question regarding the crank sensor on the 94/95' timing covers. I'm not able to find me a cover from a 94/5 SC, Mustang, or Windstar to use for this swap. How plausible would it be to make a bracket to use on my 90' timing cover to mount the crank sensor to the timing cover? I was thinking of using one of the bolts thats right by where the crank sensor would be mounted at and make a small bracket out of some 403 SS and mount the sensor to that.

Interesting, Thats good to hear thanks
Is it positioned like how the stock location is setup? like pointing right at the trigger wheel and what not?

The crank sensor sits exactly as it would if mounted to an early block.

My block is a 99 with no receiving holes at all.

The new bracket mimics stock positioning when the early model sensor is attached to it.

I did find a pic.

It will take some enlarging and still as clear as mud.

New bracket is painted the same colour as the block (black) so.....

It does show the stock positioning.

I'm lucky to have access to a CNC.

Thanks for the pic, I think my idea should work then. I'm waiting on my 4.2L balancer to show up so I got a little time to fab the bracket. The main idea is to make a little bracket that will come off of the lower timing chain bolt right by the bosses for where the newer crank sensor would be located at. Then slightly bend it inwards so the sensor is sitting in about the exact spot where it should be mounted at, like I had the 94/5 cover.

Sounds like you are doing the opposite of Shoalcracker and trying to mount a late model sensor on an early model timing cover. I can imagine it will be very difficult to make something to mount the late model sensor correctly and would keep looking for a late model (94/95) timing cover if it were me.

Shouldn't really be that difficult to locate one and I would suggest emailing Dave Dalke if you want to buy one. Email address is as follows.

Yeah, that's what I was aiming to do was a late model sensor on the early timing cover. I think I will probably end up just using the mustang cover and water pump. Which brings me to the question of: if I go that route would the car still have a functional heater and I just wouldn't be able to use the oil cooler?

Sorry, I have no idea on how the mustang parts differ from the SC's. This website has a lot of info on installing SC motors in Mustangs.
