I'm liking the lettering. I found some oil drain plug gaskets (metal w/rubber inner seal) that should work...come in packets of two for those that want seals on both sides. M12~1/2" fits snug on the bleeder bold.

Now to find a nice chrome cap for the bolt head...seems the Harley guys have that corner of the market covered :)

They do look ten times better with the lettering, and they will look even better when they come back from Polish. The one in the picture is pretty bad because I did a quick polish job myself on it. I'm gonna send a few out to chrome because I'm pretty hooked up with my chrome guys, but as far anodizing I dont have enough without paying an arm and a leg. I put a stack of caps aside to sneak in with a bigger anodize parts batch in the future.. Just don't know when

Alright so quite a few guys already got this in the mail with their sills. I provided an o-ring with each cap it's chemical resistant and rated to 400 degrees. Hope it works. I'm not sure on the torque rating on the stock bolt, I put about 10-12lbs on mine and it seems fine.

Let me know what you guys think, I love feedback good or bad and post pictures of the caps installed!

I made these available for purchase now. Ordering info is on the first post. I only have the listed in "polished" right now.

If there is any interest in chrome ones let me know, I can add that option and send a few out, should only be a few bucks more. Didnt do it right away because im not sure about coolant and chrome, I'm pretty sure it should be ok but if anyone else wants to confirm that would be great.

Oh, I misunderstood. I just don't want to miss out if you don't produce a chrome version in the near future.

They'll be available soon, maybe a week or 2? I just don't have any other parts to go to chrome at the moment and dont want to just show up with a few caps. I have a good amount of them set aside for chrome just waiting on some other of my products to be ready for chrome also.

I'll make the option available when I have them ready. And update this post

Just came in the mail.

The bolt is tight to start, but fits fine after the first couple threads. I don't see any issues.

The combo metal/rubber washers I mentioned are the same OD as the bolt shoulder and fit fine on top, between the cap and bolt head. Installed and tested fine so far, with nothing on the underside between the cap and the standoff. As usual, these are impressive, thanks. Makes the bolt look shabby, but nothing a dress cap & fresh bolt won't cure.

Just a reminder for anyone that may not have had this part off their engine yet - the bleed bolt can be very tight, mainly from corrosion over the years. In order to avoid twisting/damaging the brass standoff it screws into, there is a 3/4" hex shoulder on it at the top, right under the cap. I use an open end 3/4" wrench to hold it from twisting and a 1/2" wrench or socket on the bolt. Note that used caps are brittle and can't take much handling.

The bolt's threads are approximately 1" long. When the bolt is removed, confirm that the bleed hole is clear - clean/probe it open if not. The hole is in the center of the end where it travels up the bolt to a horizontal hole that exists on either side, approximately 3/16" inch below the shoulder that holds the cap. I always fill the bleed tube whenever I R & R just the bleed screw.

And as always, work on a cool engine any time you open the cooling system.

Greg,

Duane,

I'll add the chrome and contrast options to my store on Tuesday or Wednesday for ordering. I was just waiting on a little feedback about fitment and whether or not they actually sealed. The initial ones I made were a little tight on the I.D for the bolt so I made new ones with a couple extra thousandths of clearance for the bolt and chrome.

I'll post pictures of the Chrome Caps and the Black Contrast Caps early next week when I get them back. You guys can order them now or wait until you see them or whenever you see this post.

David,

I looked into having the bolt made, that's not an option so I'll be running some aluminum ones soon. I thought about stainless but my anodizer only does aluminum, so i'll go that route to offer the contrast option.

I'm thinking of engraving the "vent plug" and maybe putting a chamfer on the O.D after anodize for the contrast. I'll update this thread in a few days when I get a few made up

To answer a few previous questions, No the bolts are not ready for purchase at the moment but Yes the bolts will be available for purchase separately for those who already purchased a cap.

One of our mills fried a processor last month so I had to pull the bolt project off to keep our normal production running. We got it back up and running but the down time backed us up, so i'm now just getting the bolts moving again. I should have them coated (anodize/chrome) by the end of next week. Once I do i will put them up on my online store and notify everyone here.

Just a heads up, its a specialty bolt..sooooo specialty price:D

Just to clarify - is the price listed for both the cap and bleeder bolt as a set? If so, how much for bolt only?

Slater85

Price is for the bolt only. I know it's a little pricey but they're a lot of work and they're all being coated to prevent corrosion, or at least slow it down.

Have you gotten your cap yet? I placed an order back on September 17th and sent an e-mail October 12th questioning when they would be shipped out. The response from 10-12 was "Sorry about this huge delay, Chrome really lagged on these bolts. Should finally get them back and shipped out in the next couple of days." I have since sent out two additional e-mails 10-25 and 11-4 with no response at all.
