Hmmmm, go figure, as soon as the weather changes, the problems start. Started about 5 days ago. When the car is running and all warmed up (about 10- 15 mins driving) the damm "Check Engine" light comes on and stays on until I shut the enging down. If I restart, it doesn't come on again for another 10-15 mins.
I know there could be many possibilities for this problem. I assume one way to diagnose this is to hook up a code reader?
Anyone have one of these I could borrow? Or anyone have any suggestions?
The car runs the same before/after the engine light comes on.
Thanks

Matt,
Mine was doing this a short while ago. I replaced the O2 sensors and the problem went away, but I checked the codes first to be sure. I would recommend you borrow a code scanner.
Best regards,
Sean

Matt,
I've got one, but I'm up in Mount Hope. If you're planning to drive out that way any time soon, we could pull the codes quickly at my place.
Just let me know.
Cheers,
Sean

Hey, you can retreive the codes stored in memory using only a clip lead.
This is completely and well written in the Ford Electronic Engine Control book - Ed will know this one.
Basically on the side of the test connector, is a cavity for a single wire with a gray end cap. I leave a wire plugged into this. When I want codes, you clip the other end of the wire to ground, turn the key to the ON position, and the engine light will flash out the codes.
If you want I could show you this on Saturday, I will be at my work in Etobicoke.
If you search the net , you may find this procedure. You can deternine anything that a"code scanner" will show, and even as much as the dealer $90 Computer diagnostic......

Just a quick note to thank Sean for helping me out with some code reading on my car this weekend. Once again being a member of the SCOOO has helped the pocketbook.
Looks liek the problem was in fact the O2 sensors.
I got a price for $44.25 each, I think they are the OEM's? The price for the universal kind was $60 ~~~?
Thanks agian Sean

Matt,
My pleasure, pal! It was too funny that your car was spitting out exactly the same codes that I just got from my car a month or so ago. Bill McNeil fixed me up with a pair of O2 sensors from Andy at UAP, and the CE light hasn't been back on since.
I'm glad I could help. It was nice meeting you.
Best regards,
Sean
