Master cylinder?

For a couple of years I've been having clutch problems. If I keep the clutch pedal depressed the transmission will slowly engage over about 10 seconds. No big deal, just have to shift quick...otherwise it shifts fine. Today the clutch pedal made a funny whistle/pop noise and lost all resistance and I cannot shift into any gear while the engine is running. Do I have a master cylinder problem or slave problem?

-I am not leaking clutch oil
-slave cylinder is about 12 years old.
-master has never been replaced.
-clutch pedal, linkage, and rod appear to be fine.
-with the reservoir cap and bladder off, the fluid level goes up when I depress the pedal.
-clutch pedal returns to its normal resting position just fine.

Thanks for the input.

Sounds like what mine did when my slave went out, when I was reading up on the clutch system on this site I found that if you disconnect the hydrolic line that goes to the slave cylinder and try to depress the clutch pedal it will be hard as a rock if you have a good master cylinder
