wide band on the collector

Screenshot_2015-04-18-11-45-08-1.jpgLooking for thoughts on wide band placement. I want to place it on the collector so i can drill out the hole and have a muffler shop weld in the bung. This places the sensor at about 9 or 10 o'clock. I see most installs on here between the cat and the collector but the factory o2 is on the collector...can't be that bad right? I mainly want to this because the car is down waiting for parts and i can start this side project. Otherwise i'll need to get the car running and drive to the muffler shop to place the location further downstream

Ideally you'll want it at least 10 degrees above horizontal and also at least 15 degrees from vertical. This keeps condensation from collecting in the sensor while also reducing the likelihood of overheating the sensor.

That seems too close to me.

My instructions for both my WB Sensors (AEM and Innovative) say to place the sensor MUCH, MUCH farther away than on the collector.
It appears to be for the temp because too close and you will overheat the sensor.
* AEM says 18" away from exhaust ports and 36" away if you anticipate really high EGTs (Exhaust Temp >800F), run a turbocharger, run at high RPM for extended periods of time, or running lead fuel.
* Innovative says max temp should not exceed 900F and target 24" away from a turbo (I'm also assuming they are implying exhaust port as well).
