Blower drive losses

Ok, deceptive title, kinda. Stupid question now. I just reassembled a fresh s-port with new needle bearings. The rotor coating is in good shape. The bearing plate was not attended to the but bearings felt fine when separated from the casing. when I have it side by side with the early model blower it is noticeably more difficult to spin. I don't think I went overboard with the rtv so I don't suspect interference. Is the lat model blower more difficult to spin because of the shape of the case and rotor coatings or should it feel the same as the early model blower?

Forgot to mention, I put a solid coupler on the blower. The dowels were extremely tight fitting in the holes and I tapped it in with a rubber mallet.
