Ideal Engine oil pressure?

Looking to see what everyone thinks ideal hot engine oil pressure is for these engines. 60-65 hot is what I'm seeing at 200* idle. Have not had a chance to see what it's doing at 6000rpm under full boost cause the car is a beast. It has 20/50 vr1 but thinking of diluting it with 2 qts of 10/30 fomoco synthetic. Opinions?

Pressure sounds high for our 3.8 supercharged factory motors, and the oil seems out of spec/too heavy.

See these threads:

And note 5w-30 is spec. I've always run 5w-30 (synthetic).

thats a lot of pressure at idle. i would change to 5w30 and see what u get. 20 would be good at idle with that temp.

I've got a manual oil pressure gauge mounted under the hood plumbed to same port as stock oil pressure sender. At cold start I get about 90-95 psi and get 35-40 psi at 185 F. Both are with 1000 rpm idle and 5W40 full synthetic.

oil pressure

In our highly modified 5-speed '90 SC we're seeing 80 - 90 lbs of oil pressure when the car is first started cold. We're been running Mobil 1 15-50 since the engine was built. After the car is up to temp, oil pressure will bounce between 40 and 60 lbs with the cam lope. Using Autometer cobalt gauges.

We need one of them oil collectors in the PVC system for that car. But there's always other stuff like shocks and in the process of doing the head gaskets on the stock SC.

Agreed. 60-65 psi at hot idle is WAY high. Try dropping to a XW-30 weight. How high is your cold idle pressure (guessing it's whatever the bypass is set at)?

I dropped it back down to 10-40 mobil 1 full syn. Hot idle is 30psi. This is a turbo 4.3, (soon to be fastest in the world) so I'm gonna keep pressure a little higher than normal. Thanks for the replies.

O rly! Do tell...

It's a new edge chassis with scu 4.3l, 67mm borg warner turbo, built 4r70w with trans-brake, nitrous, 28" hoosier slicks, skinnies 373 gear, vp 109, and a bunch of other goodies. It's been 6.68 @ 105 mph on 17-18psi and 50hp. I keep changing my setup around so it's been a slow progress getting it dialed in correctly. I'm running an extremely conservative tune (I suck at tuning). I've never run it on the track with the brake. I have big aspirations:)
