I pulled timing cover, replaced gasket still leaks..

now it is off again, I put on a flat piece of granite and it rocks, aka warped a bit..

If you have seen this, what was the remedy ? ( 3 options comes to mind )

1. take to shop to have flattened like a cylinder head?

2. go to ford and purchase new cover ?

3. block of wood and sand until flat?

thanks,

Keith

The best solution is a machine shop milling it down flat again. You might get by doing it yourself, but it isn't fun pulling the cover if it leaks again.

Sounds like it was tweaked during removal sometime in the past.

I'd get another cover...check it first, of course.

Replacements at retail are SUPER expensive. When I needed one I robbed it from a 3.8 N/A Mustang at a wreckers. $40.00 and done.

How i fixed a warped engine component.

i fixed 4.6 valve covers by putting them in the over at 300 for 30min and i took them out and put weights on them over night while they cooled i waited till the ext day and VWALA ! The heat trick actually made it seal perfect..i tried 3 brands of gaskets and even the oem ones and they all leaked, i was afraid it was the heads but some old guru i knew taught me the hot/cold trick, its worked alot for me. lol even using hot water to expand things to get them on easier..
you have nothing to lose other than some time..and you can take that time to check other stuff out...
