1989 Audi 200 Quattro, 5-spd, AWD, 5 cylinder TURBO.
-leather interior
-power everything
-moonroof
-heated seats
-4 door
-pearl white w/ grey interior
-no rust
325,000km. $1000.00.
Here is the problem.
THUNDERBIRD insurance = $2800
AUDI insurance = $3000
~~~ is up with that? No collision covererage either. Damn.
Hey Bill,
That's outrageous! Did they say why it was so high? It's not even new.
It's high because of your age, and also because if that nice Audi gets smashed, it's expensive for replacement parts, even if it is 13 years old ...
Too bad, with 4 good tires on that it would be an awesome winter car.
cheers
Actually Ed, it has 4 new winter tires on it right now!
The only things it need are back brakes, and on oil cooler line that is leaking. I think the guys would do even better on the price too.
I don't see how the Audi having expensive parts will matter if I have no collision coverage. I would have thought being a 4 door, with a small motor and AWD, the insurance would be less.
why you need such a nice car for the winter?
your after a car just for the winter right, you not getting rid of your Sc for the summer i hope...
now that i have my sc next winter im gonna get a 89 or 90ish ford ranger and just put a sheet of 3/8 steel in the bed
or get a old escort
who cares about comfort
winter sucks i hate it
Fun Car Bill, I had an 87 5000 quattro turbo 5 speed for a winter/summer car for a couple of years. I bought it for $1500, still to this day it looks good, no real rust but electrical problems all the time, interior lights flickering, fuel pump intermitant. Didn't put too much into the car for the two years that I had it but the guy that owns it now is putting cash in it like crazy. I sold it with 240 k on it. Don't have to relocate the battery its under the rear seat. They drive real nice and look real good for their age. Just in case I think I still have a spare set of rims from mine.;)
Good luck
Well, this car may turn into an all-year-round car if my car continues to be unreliable. It will not replace the Thunderbird, but will allow me to park the bird when necessary, and still have adequate means of transportation.
Eric, I think we spoke about us both owning the 87 4000s cars at the dyno night. You're right about the electrical problems, but mine was mainly interior lights, no fuel pump trouble. I put 25,000kms on the old one and took it to almost 300,000km. All it needed was an alternator when I scrapped it.
I'm going to look at this car today...we'll see.
