I feel like an idiot for asking but...... what did you guys do to keep the alt. pulley from spinning so that the center bolt can be unbolted??

Well....if you have an impact gun to use, like Sean and I did, then someone holding a simple rag to the pulley works.
If you are trying to get the alternator pulley off with a wrench (ugwah), then you can use a small piece of 8 rib belt to prevent the pulley from moving while you wrench on it. Rather than just using torque, which likely won't work, you'll have to apply some sort of impact. Try jerking the wrench or hitting it with a rubber mallot rather than just reefing on it.
Good luck!

what I did when I never had an impact was I cut a hole in a 2X4 about the size of the pulley, split the wood in half and stuck it in a vise along with the belt, then I put a ratchet on it and smashed the ratchet handle with a large hammer:rolleyes: . If you are doing this with an aluminum pulley you have to be careful, and use Loc-tite when re-installing. Its so much easier going to an alternator rebuild place or a gas station garage and letting them do it, maybe 10Cnd dollars max, usually free:D
