Greg,
You read my mind buddy. I was just about to post this in order to make plans early enough to make sure everyone can attend.
For those who are new to the club, last year we had an SCCoO "Holiday" dinner at Jack Asters just after Christmas, which turned out to be a huge success. We will do something similar this year, but it will switch to the West end seeing as how last year's was in Scarborough.
Anyone have any suggestions?
The criteria we require is seating for over 20 people likely, somewhere affordable with a big menu selection to please all appetites, and somewhere willing to take reservations and supply seperate billing for each couple/person.
We can try to get concrete plans out by the first week of December.

Coolhand,
I think it's great that you're signing up for a membership with the SCCoA and paying the dues. I just want you to know that the SCCoO doesn't charge any dues for membership in the club. The Holiday Dinner is an SCCoO event, not an SCCoA event. If your motivation for paying dues is to attend the dinner, it's not necessary.
Cheers,
Sean

That wasnt my motivation, just my intention. I wanted to spend a week or so utilizing the forums to see if they would be of value, and I have found them to be so.
Is the dinner spouses as well????????????

Yeah this will be a great I dea. I could help and scoop out a few places around my area. I would think that we need to have access to a kids menu also for those who need to bring along the hole family to attend meats(Mr.Matteson). I think that we might be to late to book a X-mas dinner, but as last years dinner was a "holiday" dinner that might work again this year.
Lie I said I'll check out a few local places and get back to this.

I can't speak for all the club members, but I'm pretty sure that Alecia and I will not be bringing Noah and Chelsea along for the Holiday Dinner. I have a hard enough time remembering that Alecia is there, never mind having to keep an eye on my two rugrats as well! ;)
I'm very much looking forward to this year's dinner. Bill and the gang did an excellent job of arranging last year's event!
Cheers,
Sean

The event will be for wives and girlfriends.
I don't think anyone will be bringing kids, but LMK if you want to.
Matteson is too much of a social butterfly to want his kids around!
Matteson's kids are great though, I luv 'em.

:D If I may suggest there are a couple of reasonably priced places out here like the Texas long horn, Canyon creek, but the one I was thinking about was the Outback wich is near the QEW and Winston churchill bullavard, not to far from mississauga rd. Now if your a steak lover you'll love the Texas long horn and the Outback is a close second and has a wide veriety menue wise and all these places have a nice atmosphere to sit and eat and I could check on reservations and seperate billing, all I need is a date? and roughly how many people?:D

I'm beginning to think we might need to rent a hall (or Matteson's garage) if we get the turn-out I'm expecting.
We are going to need some West-end recommendations for places that can accomodate a VERY LARGE group. Last year we had over 20 people. This year, I'm thinking double that number.
Ed and I will have to go over this and decide on a direction.

Hey, neat idea - will it be on the weekend? I've never been able to make out to the mid-week events. If it's during the weekend, count me (& spouse) in...

Hey guys,
Just tuning in. I would love to go to this. I can't go the Saturday between Christmas and New Years, but any other day would be fine.

Judging by some of the responses to this thread, it looks like if we continue to grow the way we have this past year (more so in level of interest rather than numbers), then maybe this year will be the last for which we can consider the restaurant environment for our Holiday Dinner. Maybe next year we'll have to split on a hall rental, and do the 'pot luck' thing?!
;)
I think it's great!!!
Cheers,
Sean

Holiday dinner sounds good, please count 2 more for the

Edit: It looks like I won't be able to make it on the Sunday between Christmas and New Years either. If you make it the weekend before Christmas, I'm in for sure.

Hi gang!
Have we gone any further towards concrete plans for this event yet?
I'm going to need some advanced notice of the actual date/time so that I can make the appropriate arrangements (and not be committed to other plans first). ...There's the prospect of a trip to the cottage for some snowmobiling between Christmas and New Years, and that's one thing Noah loves even more than hanging out with us at the drag strip watching jet cars!!! ;)
Cheers,
Sean

Sean,
I'm going to start a new post about this tomorrow after work.
I agree that we need to get moving. We are already creating short notice, and for that I appologize.

Bill,
No apologies necessary. I wasn't suggesting that the job of organizing this event was yours and yours alone. It sounded to me like we were targetting the Mississauga/Oakville area, and as such I anticipated we'd hear more from Ryan Harris, Greg Coleman, Jim Gravelle and the rest of the members more local to that area with respect to potential restaurants for the dinner.
I've got limited time right now, but if I can help out in some way just let me know and I'll see what I can do.
Best regards,
Sean

Sean,
That's what I was hoping for as well.
Greg is supposedly getting back to me about a local restaurant spot he recommended, so I'll be calling him tonight.

O K the Outback by me will do seperate billing for couples and we can reserve spots for between 26 to 30 I figure. We need a head count for sure so we know how many Adults are going Bill if you can find out and let me know then I can book it if that is where everyone wants to go?:D I'm trying for Saturday the 28 or if everyone wants the 29th?
SeanMatteson
12-09-2002, 09:30 AM
I'm good for either of those dates, so please count Alecia and I in. Where is this Outback, Greg? I assume it's in Oakville or Mississauga.
Hopefully, we'll get responses from everyone ASAP so we can set the date/time and give everyone lots of warning.
Best regards,
Sean

I've gettign out to a few places on this.
1. The keg, F those those prices. And they were not to happy about the # of peolpe, with short notice. Like 3 weeks is notenought?
2.CHAPS. not to sure if all would "Texas" style grill for a holiday meal, but they would do a table or area for 40 people. Seperate bills, not problem.
3.East side Mario's(local watering hole) Not enoug room in this place for 40, at 1 table. So I didn't ask.
These places are close to my house, so it's pretty well off the QEW at Dorval. There is also a Kelsey's nare there, should I check that place out too?

Ryan,
I appreciate your efforts. As of right now the Out back Steakhouse that Greg researched seems fine, but cannot be confirmed until we get a final head count and make reservations. If you wouldn't mind, please continue to check out some please in your area that would be suitable. I am going to start that new post right now so that we can get the ball rolling.
Greg,
We may need more than 30 people, what will the seating arrangement be like.
Ed,
I'm going to leave this post at the top for a few days until the official posts get rolling. We still have some needed info here.
