the date is in for the Canadian V6 Ford Challenge II.
Saturday May 17 2003 @ 10am at St. Thomas International Dragway (www.stthomasdragway.com), the location of first Canadian V6 Ford Challenge. Located just outside of London, Ontario, Canada, about 2 hours from the Detroit border and about 2 1/2 hours from the Buffalo border.
its been talked over with Dave Mather, the track owner, and we were able to hit on dates that don't interfere with *local* FFW or NHRA events.
the rain date, is Saturday May 24th. 2002
we hope to make the event an even bigger success.
all V6 Mustangs, V6 Thunderbirds, V6 Probe's, V6 SHO's, V6 contours, and other V6 Ford's are welcomed.

I should have my HGs replaced by then, and be running a richer file potentially with 1.8 rockers and some other goodies.
The only problem I forsee is getting either of those weekends off so close to Carlisle. You are lucky you didn't pick the first weekend in June, or it would have been supercoupeless.

Sounds good Jamie
Hopefully this year the date won't be a conflict for so many people, and we can have a better SC representation.
Fines Ford Lincoln should be able to help out on some prizes again, we'll talk about that before the event.
I'm going to stick this thread for a few days so everybody sees it, then in the spring we'll do the same thing with a new post.
BTW, I didn't realize Mathers owned St. Thomas now ... he used to be the owner of the Ford dealer in London a few years back.
cheers

I appreciate the ehlp there Ed, I'll be in touch closer to the race date, FINES FORD helps out with some nice prizes last year, I loved the mugs and the model was SWEEEEEEET! I wanted that model soooo bad! :)
Anyways, Milan picked the date so I didn't have much say but we were trying to keep it as open as possible for all cars attending, thnks for hte heads up about Carlisle Bill.
If wwe get enough cars out from each car group we are hoping to have a separate class for each car group, say if we get 10 pre-registered cars in the SC class we will give you guys your own class, but if 2 of the ten race in Power Adder heads up then that leaves only 8 SC in the SC calss in which we would still need 10 if that makes sense.
But the final details are not ironed out yet so we will be making adjustments as the date gets closer, We basically wanted to get a WEEKEND date this year to help a lot of guys make it out, plus we want to encourage early pre-registration so we can determine race classes and it also helps sponsors know tey ahve cars coming otherwise they don't like to send sponsor prizes if only 2 cars show up *hint hint* I hope to contact Magnum Powers again but he may be a little hasty about donating if not many guys are signed up, this year is gonna be better organizes then last year as well so that will help, look for hte race website to be up and running soon.

As we found out at our last track day at St. Thomas, cooler weather does not always mean faster track time. The ground was cold and the rain had washed away all the vht from previous applications so no one was able to get decent traction.

we are talking with Dave about getting the track prepped this year, last year the traction sucked, no prep, we'll fix that this year.

Yeah......when I mentioned an earlier date I obviously ment a day which is not raining..............and I still think that on a dry day, which they would most likely apply many coats of VHT, a temperature of 10 - 15 degrees will yeild better times than an 20 - 25 degree day.
Beginning of May?...........End of May?

our main goal with planning a race date was to schedule around as many others events as we could since we have so many car groups coming, Cougars, contours, probes, SHO's t-birds and stang, so getting a date for everyone was hard. This was the best we could do plus getting a Saturday, we also did not want to conflict with FFW or NMRA events which some of the top mustang guys attend, including myself next year, I plan on going to one or two.
Also the earlier inMay it is the better chance of rain (April Showers) sometimes last until early May and June is getting a little to warm, so hopefully we'll be good this year, either way, rain or shine we are showing up this year, the weather can change in 30 mins and be beautiful oput so we will go NO MATTER WHAT! We learned the hard way last year.
Here is the link to last years messageboard for the race, its still up and running so feel free to post, its ezboard so if you have an ezboard login then you are good to post.

will do Ed, thanks for sticking it for a few days, I think most peeps saw it now. I will add to this post or make a new one as I get more info and details about the race.
Book the time off work now guys! :) If ya can that is, we will be encouraging pre-reg and pre-payment this year, if we get 10+ SC's to sign up (not including those signing up for Power Adder class) we will give the SC's their own class to race in, if we have 8 guys sign up for the SC class and 2 for Power Adder class then there is no SC class, just have to all race in the PA class then. We want to give every car its own class to race in so its more fun, but everyone is welcome to race everyone during qualifying or sign up for the PA class.
We want pre-reg and pre-pay so we can guarentee there will be guys showing up especially if we give them their own class, don't want to make a specific calss and only have 4 guys show up or something. Also pre-reg gives the sponsors something to see and encourange them to donate :)
Damn, I just typed all this and realized I already mentioned it in my earlier post, oh well.
Stay tuned for more info!

FYI: The race date has been changed to May 24th to avoid the
scheduling conflict with the WFC.

Yes, we are working on the date, there were some who were concerned with the May 17th date conflicting with the World Ford Challenge event which occurs that same weekend, so some suggested that it be changed to May 24 (the rain date).
I for one would rather see the May 17th date kept since I think we will lose more cars to the holiday weekend then we will to WFC. I mean WFC is mainly a V8 race and its rathre far away, so I don't think we will lose too many cars that weekend, most of the local cars will come to the V6FC rather then the WFC, we will lose a few guys to WFC since V6's can and do race at this event but I think more cars will be lost onthe holiday weekend due to family plans, mind you the extra day on that weekend is great for travellers.
I vote for May 17th still though. I am talking with Milan about this, he makes the date decision. Give me your thoughts everyone as to what date is better for you May 17th or May 24th?

I can smell the Carlisle in the air just from the mention of these dates! I will likely have to pass because...
A. NOT going to blow up my car before the biggest event of the year.
B. Can't get those weekends off so close together unless I have a different job by then (hopefully)
C. Don't want to get embarrased by Les' progressively faster XR7.
