If they are the same then they would shift the same and the gears are stationary and the hub That moves forward and back ward locking and unlocking use of a certain gear. When that gear is connected to the cluster gear below and the other hub connectes another certain gear that is also constanly connected and then goes out the tailshaft.

How they work is quit interesting.

I might be missing something and we are talking about the same thing. Also the grinding is the hub and the teeth it locks to when etrying to engage. I have studied the T5 well when I rebuilt so I could understand how it works.
