OK, what was the consensus on the Murad Autos Black SC?
I never did look at it, should I consider?
I am starting to beat the bushes looking for a 94/95 to replace my 90.
Any leads out there?
Prefer to buy private, but they are getting fewer and farther between so I am looking everywhere.
Does anybody here know the details on importing a US car?

you cant bring a US based SC into canada because of the automatic seat belts, they are illegal in canada apparently even thou you can find them on the earlier Tracers/escorts, go figure

Also Jason Wild said something about the bumpers not being up a speed law, i was never told this when asking so im not to sure on it, maybe he will tell ya.

I passed by Murad yesterday (Sunday) and the SC is still sitting there. I didn't stop to look at it though. Take it for a Test drive, it can't hurt... We'll it might hurt your wallet a bit!!!!!!!!

Bruce, the 94 - 95 cars have air bags on both sides, so even the U.S. cars don't have the passive restraint belts those years. And the bumper pieces are the same for U.S. and Canada, so it should be no trouble for Canada's 5 mph bumper law vs the U.S. 2-1/2 or 3 (?) mph laws.

Ed - US is 3 mph if i'm not mistaken.

The belts and bumpers make sense, but there is still the rumor going about only being able to bring a car into Canada if it's the same model as the date (ie, 2003) or if it's a 20 year old car (ie, pre-1973). ?Duh? Maybe a problem.

I saw and drove the Murad SC. Check this thread (http://www.sccoa.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=15086) for some details and photos of the car.

Andrew, we have had customers who have moved up from the U.S. and brought their 90s vehicle with them ... I think the main requirements other than safety and emissions equipment is to have a metric speedometer, and bilingual labelling for the air bag warning labels, etc. So just about any vehicle that was also certified for sale in Canada with the same equipment, could be imported from the U.S., in my understanding.

Hey guys......

Just wanted to clear the issue up..... I work on the border and as of right now, the 89-93 birds and cougars are classed "inadmissable"

The US and Canada both have them in their respective countries but won' t allow any more in unless they are specifically only for parts and have a salvage title.

If you wanted to modifiy the belts to get to code then you would have to have written permission from Transport Canada and the Registrar of Imported Vehicles for whom we do the controls on behalf of.......

If you guys are gonna import a car lemme know when and bring it through Fort Erie and I'll try and help with the paperwork for you.......

Good Luck

What about the 94/95's?

They are fine to come across as they haven't the track seatbelts.

They do require however:

1. Daytime running lights
2. Proper child seat restraints (free from dealer when i imported)
3. All recalls performed
4. Sticker put on dash to signify odometer in miles
5. Bilingual stickers for visors for airbag warnings
6. Door post sticker with canadian registry.

All of this gets done after it is imported at the crappy tire nearest you.......

other cost involved at the border will give more details if you need them.....

Thanks, as importing a 95 from US is a realistic possibility. If I get real serious about one I will let you know.
