Greg and Pat,

I've still got that annoying dent in the front center of my hood. I'd really like to have that fixed before Carlisle. At this point, I'm not so sure I want to have the whole hood repainted if it will save me money just to have the dent fixed and the paint blended. At some point in the next year or two I'm going to need to get the whole car painted, so I just don't see much point in painting the whole hood now.

I think you guys have both seen the damage to my hood. In your professional opinions, is it repairable, and if so, can you suggest where/how I can go about getting it fixed?

Thanks in advance,

Sean

I have to say this: Just slap on that black hood (also with a dent). Nothing says fast like mis-matched colour body panels.

Hi Sean, I have only seen your car at night. and don't remember spotting the dent. Send me two digital photo's of the hood 1 pic with the whole hood and 1 closeup pic of the dent itself. Take the dent pic on an angle so the light refracts off it and it will be more visible. I should be able to determine whether the hood can be spot painted or blended rather than completley painted. pryan@carstar.ca

Sean I've seen the dent on your hood and I could fix the dent for you if you give me $40.00 and I'll tell them that I'm doing it on my own time considering they would charge you 2 to 3 hours labour at $40 to $44 an hour and you would need to paint the whole hood, and I'll ask them how much. Probobly about $150.00 to $200.00 Just one question,is the paint on the car faded or not?:D

Paddy,

I'll see if I can get some digital pics tonight.

Greg,

The hood, both front fenders, and the front bumper cover have been painted on my car in the past. The colour match was less than perfect. The rest of the car is original, and looks a little faded. Although my car doesn't have any rust, the faded paint is really the reason that I'm saying I will need to get the whole car painted soon enough.

I've got a buddy that works for a company called Carsmetics. They specialize in a mobile service, where they repair minor dings and scuffs by blending to the original colour. Since I've got that bra on the car to conceal the imperfection (unfortunately, the severity of the dent results in the depression still being visible under the bra), maybe I'll have you fix the dent and prime the repair, and then I'll just have him flash in the red, keeping his blend-line at or below the level of the bra.

Then, when the time comes that I get the whole car painted, they can scuff the surface at the site of the repair, while they're doing everything else.

Greg, I'm assuming you'll need me to remove the hood and deliver it to you. It looks like Ryan may get his wish afterall... At least temporarily, I may have to install that spare hood I've got... Yeah, the black one off Sebastien's '93!

What do you guys think?

Thanks,

Sean

Sounds good, let Greg do the repair, he could probably knock it off pretty quickly. You might want Greg's painter to spot paint to the bra line for colour and sealing purposes. Then when the whole car is being done it'll be primed and painted so they'll just have to scuff and go.

Seeing as how Sabby's old hood would need painting to be usable as a permanent hood later on....I say we spray paint "Matteson Motorsports" on the black one in red paint until your hood is ready.

I'm dead serious.

do it, spray bomb mateson motorsports under the line where the bra would cover it, than you can show it at Carlisle!!

Umm, the whole idea is to have the original red hood repaired and back on the car well in advance of leaving for Carlisle!

Maybe I'll see about having a few cheap vinyl decals made up for the ficticious "Matteson Motorsports"?! ...For kicks!

...Then when Bill's not lookin' I'll paste them all over his car!

:D

Cheers,

Sean

I'd put those stickers on my car for kicks, no prob.

I was thinking T-shirts too.

Still serious.
