Oceanside is such a small city, It's hard to believe that there have been so many new guys here on the board from Oceanside, and they have never bumped into each other. Either that or someone has MPD

I talked to a mech. that owns Gods speed dyno in oceanside. My car has serious detonation at WOT. I am pulling 15-17 psi of boost and he said that is really bad when only running 91 octane. So I went junk yarding and found a used 94 sc pulley but the guy wanted $30 for it, so I didn't pick it up. I was looking at the stock 89-93 pullies and it looks identical to the one that is on my car. The guy I bought the car from said he put a 10% on, but I don't think that is true. So I am trying to find a bigger pulley to try and get the boost down, the mech I talked to said 8-10 is about where I need it. If anyone has any other ideas feel free to let me know.

....please post JUST in one place and not on other threads that are not on this topic....that way we only need respond in one place.

****Did you not mention in another post that you have recently changed your plug wires and plugs? I would almost bet that you have a wire problem or a plug problem. Either a wire is not fully seated or possibly a plug is broken.
Did you at one time indicate that the detonation occurs at WOT ? How does it run in the normal driving mode?

The boost thing could be annomalous to a faulty gauge. Have the mechanic check with an independent boost gauge.

Al...I agreed this is weird.

some members dont go to sccosc and some dont go to tech or none tech..... the best way to get help is to post in a few key places ,, like your home bbs sccosc,..... and tech as someone from sccosc may know the answer to your ?..... and he may not go to tech as a usual forum,,,,, and may miss your question,,,,this is bad if he is the only one with a answer..... and this is one of those weird ones that needs the help of all you can find......also look at the links and check out some of the other tbird sc boards,..... they may have the answers you need as was said this is a weird one,..... but even though you may stray from sccosc remember this is the best of the best and the guys here do have the most knowledge as a whole.......but for this one go everywhere and get lots of opinions,,,,, , I wont name names of other boards thats just not cool....... I respect this board,,, so just check out the links on sccoa home page......between all the sc xr7 communitys you should get your answers......and as a rule most try to limit the questions to one forum.... and one topic to keep it easy on the guys who respond,,,,,, as ronz sc said answering the same questions on several topics is a strain on the system and the advice givers..... not that this time it was uncalled for but for the most part we do try to only post a topic once..... sorry to interfer with the post just trying to help.... if I insulted anyone it was a accidental happening. sorry.

The plugs and wires have not been changed since I bought the car but is something that I want to do. During WOT is when I hear the detonation, when running idle to 3/4 throttle the car is fine. Idle is smooth, not rough at all. I put some octane booster in it last night and the hesitation was gone and I didn't hear it detonating, so this could be good or bad. I put prestone octane boost and it said it would boost it up to 10 more points.
Now, I got to thinking, this all started when I upgraded from stock MAFS to 76 c&l, and 85mm TB. Now I did this because I was under the impression from the guy who sold me the car had the heads ported and polished, 3 angle valve job, cam was reground, and there was a 255 fuel pump on the car. He also said he set the spark plugs to where they were all facing the same direction.

Now, here is where I am at. He didn't have the specs for the cam regrind, and I don't really know if the heads had anywork done on them. Here is what I am thinking. I am going to get a new cam from Dr. Fred, crane, or coy miller, what ever is the best one. I am going to get some used heads and port and polish, roller rockers, new valves, and whatever else I can do. I want to put new wires and spark plugs but don't know what are the best ones to use. I am going to get a 255 fuel pump and upgrade to #38 injectors. Until then I am going to drop back down to a 70mm TB, 3" inlet tube and the stock MAFS. I would also like to get a used block and put a new crank, rods, pistons and whatever else will help. I am really second guessing the work that was done on the car so I want to start from scratch and do it my self.

As for the boost pressure. I have a auto meter 30-0-30 gauge installed in the car so I am pretty sure it is reading right, at least I hope it is. Other then that I don't know what else to do. Oh, after I have the work done I wanted to get a Dr. Fred chip for it. So I hope this helps out.
