EGR valve removal

Anyone have a tip on how to get the EGR valve off of 95 5-spd. I can see no way other than removing exhaust behind the manifold and taking the whole tube off with EGR still on the top. I can't seem to get behind the head to get a wrench on the top fitting going into the valve.

you need one small socket and one deep socket, 1/4" drive. You also need a small 1/4" ratchet. It's a pain, but after doing it a few times, I can get it off the plenum in a few minutes.

It also helps if the motor is cool :)

disconnecting it from the intake plenum is not a problem. Well let me rephrase that I can get it off the plenum the tube is the problem I can't get the valve off the EGR tube that runs to the header.

I own an '89 and a '90 5-speed, so I am not that familiar with the '95's.
If it's the big nut (about 1-1/8") that connects the EGR tube to the valve, I went and bought an open end 'claw foot' thing that looks like you sawed the end off of an open end wrench and then put a 3/8" square drive hole into it. That way I was able to go straight down to the nut, hook the claw onto it, and unscrew the thing.
(Got it at Sears)
