Al,
On the drive home today I was debating your pinging issue. Was your car pinging at all before mods? How about before the rebuild? I thought you had a Man. cam installed and was thinking if the car is staying closed loop for whatever reason the increased duration of the man cam would make the fuel maps lean...right? Hence a ping...I know that you have since aided the breathing of your baby and this would only make things worse but a tuner or at least a Jerry tune would be able to bring things around (after the injectors and maf of course). I was just curious if the ping was fading after the car was thoroughly warmed when it starts "seeing" the sensors and not falling back on the Ford fuel maps or if it was pretty constant? I'm not sure, but I just wanted to throw some ideas out there.

Anthony

BTW Mine pings something terrible before it is warmed as well.

Anthony,

Thanks for the insight! I think my problem is a partially clogged injector(s) and a vac leak I found. Reason I say this is because at first the car didnt ping (after the rebuild). Then, I put the ZR Intake in and a little after that the car started pinging only under part throttle and not at wot (either that or I couldnt hear it over the whine and exhaust) when the car was on the warm side.
I know I had/have a lean condition since I removed a spark plug and they looked pretty messed up (brownish redish color) indicating too big a gap and too hot a plug. The vac leak I found was at the time when I put in my IC fan and had the IC out (a lot of oil in there, eeew), the bottom IC tube wasnt sealed with rtv or the teflon tape. It had some other crap on it and the flange bolts were lose.
I am going with the 36 lbs injectors since I also have 95 pistons (95's come with 36's stock) and the manual cam does have slightly more lift so after all that, a chip or a tuner would be my next mod after maybe a 5% pulley. I have a set of fresh plugs to go in and the magnecores ofcourse and I plan to gap the plugs at ~.45.
