Just to make sure everyone is on the right page...

Our February meet will be on Saturday, February 15th at the California Speedway. They allow only the first 500 cars drag racing priviledges, so be early if you wish to race. Otherwise, coordinate with Al35thSC and cruise in with the chapter

RonzSC
02-01-2003, 04:23 PM
Well, you calculate that we are in Pomona at 5:30am and by that we should be there before 6:ooam. (Read John Shelton's post). It pays to be early!

I just bought my daughter-in-law's 35th! It's not in perfect shape - that's why she's letting me have it, but it drives pretty well and what's wrong with it won't take all that much to fix. ;)
I'm not going to have to SHO up on the 15th, I'll be coming in class! :D

Mike & Dr. Fred are being super with my SilverBird - it may be driveable for Bakersfield. :p

Life's good again!

I'm working on the kids to come with the '90 5spd, but they're both in the Navy @ North Island & Angie works the late shift. They didn't say absolutely no, so I can still hope.

RonzSC

Oh no.....another 35th!
This is too weird.

Matt SC ESC

Hmm, our 35th count is up to... 5!!!

Correct me if i'm wrong, but is that 5 more than nor/cal?

Al
Ron
Me
Mike
and now... YOU! =)

boy oh boy this is going to be one neat picture for us =) mine will look a little different though with my hood... but it's all good =) by the way... shipping on that hood, was 130 bones... total up to 600 and something, but well worth it =)

Is there a contest going on here?

Don't get too excited Matt. If it's running right, I'm taking my SilverBird to Bakersfield.

Besides, it's not complete - when Angie was having the tires swapped (at a tire store in San Diego) from my brushed aluminum wheels to to the 35th wheels, the 35th's "disapeared". :(

Ever see 35th wheels where they don't belong down there Matt?

And the 35th emblem was ripped off the passenger's side. :(

Eventually I'll get it restored.

Matt SC ESC

I've seen 35th wheels on a green thunderbird LX. i believe the owner goes to the westcoastfords.com's forums. Check it out =)

I've seen that car on west coast fords as well. www.westcoastfords.com. I kind of like the silver wheels on the 35th...

Hey Al, wanna swap?

Lee :D

BTW I left your t-shirt @ Mike's

Lee,

Swap?! Not in a million years  I said I liked it, but I'm not in love with it :) Thanks for the shirt, Mike called me and told me about that. Next time we're wrenching at Mikes, I'll get that stereo working for you.

There was 1 other thing about the 35th I didn't mention - the radio turns on and will find stations, but not a peep, and no response from the cd either.
Can I talk you into looking @ that 1 instead?

Lee

Not too familiar with the stock units, but sure! I think Mike found a way to bypass the CD player, we'll look at his diagrams and see what we can do.

Would any San Diego guys, including the more northern oceansiders, want to meet up here in escondido somewhere near the 15/78 connector? and all head up there together? about an hour and a half (with some safety time) up the 15. if anyone's interested, let me know... i'll probably be fixing to leave here around 4:15/4:30AM, since i'll be towing the SC.

Hmm if we have to get there that early then it looks like i might just be a watching. i dont get off until 8am

RonzSC

The rims need to be clean and paint nice for them to look right. It looks awesome when Mike, Al and me all park together. I can only imagine what we will look like now with the five units all together.
I believe that the North now has one 35th and I heard that it is nice.
Matt, I bet your new hood looks great. I can't wait until my hood project is done and we roll to Bakersfield.

Matt SC ESC
02-04-2003, 09:12 PM
Ron, correct me if i'm wrong, but would it be possible to powder coat the regular SC wheels, with the same appearance? or will the rough texture somehow change the the way it looks. Also ron. I bought a powder coating machine, but it's kinda hard to find an old junk oven big enough for my wheels to fit in. I believe it was alex who told me that you might possible know someone who does powder coating. If you do... if you dont mind me asking, what did you pay for your wheels, and how much could I get them done for? i noticed your wheels looked mighty spiffy at the dyno day.

Do we need helmets to race up there???

RonzSC
02-05-2003, 02:37 AM
My cousin owns Hooter Brothers which does powder coating. They redid my front rims and they still look perfect after eight years. I asked the same question because I bought a set of aluminum rims and am thinking of coating them. My cousin thinks they should be easier to shoot black like a 35th's than redo them. When you redo them he found that the BEST way to do them was to have them chemically stripped rather than try to shoot over them and/or mechanically strip and paint.

Did you want to strip your rims all the way down to bare metal, then buff them out and then re-powder coat them? I will ask him to quote you a price.

I may shot my two rims a different color just for my drag radials. It is either new radials for Bakersfield or my interior....hummmmmm.

Matt SC ESC
02-05-2003, 03:23 AM
No, see, Alex has gotten good at photoshop :D Looks nice al... if only you could see the 1/4" of dirt layering my car right now...

rivlee
02-05-2003, 03:30 AM
I was thinking of just thoroughly cleaning the surfaces, masking, priming and painting. The emblem in the center of the cap will take a little more detailing, but I wasn't envisioning anything more complicated.

Where am I going wrong?

Lee

BTW Matt, I caught your posting and I gotta' tell ya, Photoshop's for the effete intelligencia. I don't think Al qualifies. - Go Corel!

Matt SC ESC
02-05-2003, 03:36 AM
Lee, not saying that you drive like me... but the wheels get really hot under hard braking. Now... alex hasn't had any problem with it, and when i saw his wheels, they looked good. I just want to powder coat them, because like ron says, it lasts forever...

Ron, i'd probably bead blast the wheels myself (or would that hurt the alloy?), but if you could, so kindly, find out how much it would be? :)

NEWS FLASH: Police chase in arcadia, on KTLA! =)
...What a suprise

RonzSC
02-05-2003, 03:37 AM
I guess the wheels take alot of interaction with road debris and the paint deal doesn't hold up very well. It will do for a bit, but is not a long term fix. Al and Mike have done the re-paint deal, but I prefer the powder coat method. In my opinion, it is nicer and last a heck of a longer time. I would try the re-paint as it is a cheaper way to go and will show you some instant gratification. When you want to do it right, go the powder coat way....IMHO.

rivlee
02-05-2003, 03:59 AM
I'm not painting the SilverBird's wheels. :)

al35thsc
02-05-2003, 05:59 PM
Matt,

the only thing I used photoshop for on that picture was to shrink it since there is a limit on file size attached to the messages. The repaint was just for instant gratification, BUT they do look good if you do them right. There is a trick to keeping them looking nice...but I'm not telling.

Helmets only for 13.9 or quicker.

Al

Drivers of all 13.99 or quicker cars, and co-drivers in 14.00 to 14.99 second cars, must wear a helmet meeting Snell 90 or Newer, or SFI 31.1,31.2 specs.

Thems is NHRA rules :) We can go halfers on one since I'll be needing it too ;)

Al

Matt SC ESC
02-06-2003, 05:24 AM
you only need a helmet if you run quicker than 13.9? I guess i better bring my helmet then... full face? or no? :D

al35thsc
02-06-2003, 01:11 PM
Hey, people always tell me I have half a brain...so why not?! :D I'm not about to line up against Mike when I have Carlos, Matt, Ron....and the rest trying for a piece of the title (SCCoSC's slowest). Besides, we need someone to run against John...poor Mike wont stand a chance  j/k Mike, see ya Saturday!

Al

RonzSC
02-06-2003, 01:39 PM
Matt...DO NOT bead blast as this process may remove some of the parent material along with the paint. Find a local place that can chemically strip the paint. After that have the bare rim micro-polished to get a righteous paint finish.

Don't worry guys, the only ones that need helmets are Mike, John and Anthony. The "slow-poke" division only need an extra coat of hairspray.

al35thsc
02-06-2003, 01:51 PM
Best part about people that talk smack, is making them eat it. We'll see how the So Cal's fastest list looks like after Fontana. Dont worry Ronnie, you'll STILL be the slowest.

Al

RonzSC
02-06-2003, 01:57 PM
Al, you are so funny at this time of the day! I am rolling on the floor holding my sides with the thought of you ever beating me at anything. The track, dyno, anything. You're a gas dude.
Your car is pretty, but face it....it's slow. RonzSC had more power STOCK than yours with all your mods. Now that I have powered up my SC, you are way behind the power curve little man.
Keep up the jokes however.

rivlee
02-06-2003, 02:08 PM
Fight nice kids. :p

With a 168K, pure stock 35th, that has a leaking rear seal and hesitating tranny, I think I can claim the "Slowest 'running' SC in the So Cal chapter". :D

al35thsc
02-06-2003, 02:10 PM
That must be a WEIRD world you live in cuz as far as I know, and others will agree, YOU have never BEAT me at the track. Heck, we've never even raced. As long as I've known you, you have always been sitting on your pretty side, ALWAYS. Baby sitting Buzz, while your girls do your work for you. As far as CARS go, it was only 4 horsepower difference and my curve has gonne up too bro, don't worry about that. As far as TRACK TIMES and MPH go, mine WAS FASTER AND QUICKER. Where in the hell do you get that your car is faster??? Even with clogged cats and 4 horse power less than you, that rust bucket of yours couldnt keep up.

And oh yeah It's pretty, it's SOOO pretty

We'll see who's laughing when you see the ET's and MPH. By the way, this is a challenge to you.

Submit a timeslip to scguys@sccoa.com and see if you are ranked higher or lower than me. C'mon, I DARE YA! Or are you Chicken??? BUCK BUCK BUCK!!!

I'll cut some slack here. The title of "Slowest" is probably the second most coveted of all Souther Cal Super Coupe titles. It is a hard fought for and precious honor. At the moment we can all hope for this title, but only AL35thSC has raced enough people to lay the right to claim the title. Matt(unoffical stop light racing doesn't count), Ronzsc, and countless others only can hope to garner this title in the future.
Get in line Lee and race for glory as the Chapter's slowest SC.

al35thsc
02-06-2003, 02:27 PM
Don't change the subject old man. Post your time slips. C'mon, we'll use the same rules as the SCCoA's fastest. You tell me who is SCCoSC's Slowest then.

For the record, I did beat Mike in his Ti-SC at Irwindale and he beat me the second time even though I ran quicker and faster (I fell asleep at the light). Also, my time slip from those runs are faster than Carlos' runs on that same track. Stop light to stop light (while beating him off th eline and giving him the chance to launch first) I handed matt his arse twice.

Also, I hold the record for smokiest burnout, and smokiest run down the track.

So what do you say Ronnie....whats your track record??? Oh thats right, YOU DONT DRIVE YOUR OWN CAR DO YOU??? There goes any other questions I can ask you about anything else you do to your car, besides pay money for others to work on it. Tssk tssk Ronnie, arguing with a 23 year old college student who owns a car that is faster than yours.

With the parts you got coming and the stuff you already have in it, that car is going to be one fast bird. We definately need to make Mike's Speed Shop stickers now.

245's should have come with the SC's stock...not the truck tires :D
