View Full Version : If you could have *any* Ford, what would it be?

02-09-2003, 01:41 AM
Any year, any model Ford related product. What would you take?

New GT40 would be cool, but I think I'd still go with a '69 Boss 429.

02-09-2003, 01:50 AM
GT as in GT 40 since Ford is not going to call the new one a GT40 just GT. If not that then i guess it would be a Shelby Cobra, or the rare Hearst Rental car Shelby GT 350, Herst Rental bought a bunch of these cars as rentals back in the day and equipped them with beefed up automatic trannies. Pretty rare and pretty cool history for a HI-Po car to have.

02-09-2003, 01:54 AM
I would go for the new 03 Cobra..... Supercharged V8 :D

02-09-2003, 01:56 AM
Those are good looking cars. The myth (maybe not?) is that some of those got rented by Mustang owners and got returned with a swapped out engine, since the Hertz offices didn't really know enough, or think, to check. May not be true.
Didn't know they'd shorted the GT 40 to GT. Either way, cool car.

02-09-2003, 01:57 AM
No myth, it did happen, many racers did steal the engines. They talked about that at the last Barret Jackson Auction

White 2001 Lightning please :)

02-09-2003, 02:31 AM
Not much of a Ford fan, Ford just happen to build the Thunderbird :p. but I am with Thomas on this one a Lightning only jet black

02-09-2003, 02:31 AM
I'd have to deviate slightly from Ford. '69 Cougar XR7 with the 429CJ engine with the *extremely* rare 4 speed manual trans. As near as Ford can find, there were only two of those cars produced with that combination. Only 1 has been found, and never sold. But since that is out of my league, I'll stick with my T-birds.

Second in line would be a '57 supercharged T-bird. And yes they did, although production numbers were low.

02-09-2003, 02:58 AM
i'd have to go with a 68 t-bird landau 2 door with a 429ci, actually i would really really want a 67 thunderbird apollo, i always thought they were the coolest of all. check this out http://automotivemileposts.com/tbird1967apollo.html

02-09-2003, 05:21 AM
There are quite a few Fo Mo Co cars I would like to have.

1964 Thunderbolt
1995 Cobra R (it was white-not red with a 351)
1984 Mustang SVO
1957 Thunderbird f-code (the supercharged one)

and then there is a 1978 Pinto that I always wanted...the runabout with the all glass hatch....ahhh something about a Pinto....oh it has to be STOCK, not some big block 8 sec Pinto either. Beleive it or not stock Pintos are a commodity.

02-09-2003, 05:59 AM
Can't remember which car it was but in the mid/late 60's they used a SOHC Hemi 427 (I keep wanting to say Torino Talledaga)
657hp/540ft-lbs Dual Quad Stock.

Either that or a 67 Shelby GT500KR

02-09-2003, 01:17 PM
1969 Ford Daytona Coupe'

02-09-2003, 01:46 PM
Definitely the 1964 Thunderbolt....my uncle owned one of these back in the '70s. Truly awesome cars...and did I mention only around 100 were built?

I want a Jaguar XKR coupe, metallic BRG with tan leather interior with all options. That's pronounced Jag-u-ar now, like Yoda was saying it. "Hmm, a Jag you are."

02-09-2003, 02:03 PM
Twin Supercharged Austin Martin Vanqusih

02-09-2003, 02:26 PM

The hertz's cars were 66 GT350H and yes they only made like 100 of them, ..... 007 the 428scj 4 speed would be a super drag pack car, VERY VERY rare in a cougar and only in 1969... MN12SC35th, you would be looking for a 66 Gal. 500xl with the dealer installed opt. of the 427 SOHC. only year and car that it was offered, they clame that there are only five or six of these around.. and as for the KR, that would have to be a 68 500 king of the road Shelby. That is what the kr stands for... Now my pick would be a Mercury Lynx 1984 with the 2.0 diesel and a 5 speed. It gets 60 miles to the gal. and still seats 5 smaller people.. I did buy one new and still have it. Great car for those trips to the store 100 miles away, or to chase parts for the many other cars that stay here... Now for the real pick of the day, a 70 1/2 Falcon 429 SCJ 4 speed super drag pack 375hp,500 tqu,and a 4:30 locker, man what a ride.....Rich

02-09-2003, 03:48 PM
A woman came into my work with a 1970 T-Bird with a 428. Nice looking.

02-09-2003, 04:03 PM
Ok Make that just a 67 GT500 (I kept thinking they KR started in 67) THe 68's are a bit wierd looking (that hood scoop just isn't right)

02-09-2003, 07:54 PM
I'll take the 1966 427 Shelby Cobra.

02-09-2003, 08:33 PM
The 427 SOHC was "NEVER" offered as an option in "ANY" production Ford. "IF" there were any sold with that engine installed it was a dealer installation. Those engines were over the counter only.

02-09-2003, 08:54 PM

a Ford Pinto, I can only hope when i purchase my dream car it hasnt had its 2.3 engine swapped from being a past vehicle rental, that would suck:(

02-09-2003, 10:00 PM
03 Cobra or a 2nd gen Lightning

02-10-2003, 06:58 AM
I have always been in love with the GT-90 concept from 95..Here is a link...I like the FR-100 as well...And the 49...Neat concepts...Ford Throwbacks...

Cheers then,

Original GT40 MK II with 427ci 8x1 induction (or was that fuel injection? either way it was cool) MKII's had the better looking tail lights and the side ducts for the engine air hehind the side windows

1957 Fairlane 500 convertible or retractible hard top W/Thunderbird Special engine

1958 Crown Victoria glass top

1957 Thunderbird

Scott Long
02-10-2003, 11:19 AM
I would take a black '90 mustang gt 5-speed hatchback or convt.

02-10-2003, 06:02 PM
I would definately choose the Detomaso (Ford) Pantera GT5.

02-10-2003, 08:06 PM
OOPS I meant 1956 Crown Vic glass top, not a 58...eawwwww the 58's looked like trucks!

Mike Puckett
02-10-2003, 08:16 PM
I actually liked the 58. It was the 58 Chevy that I thought was so ugly not that all Chevies weren't ugly back then.

02-10-2003, 11:32 PM
I'll be different..

I'll choose ZZ-tops '33-'34 ford.

02-11-2003, 02:00 AM
I guess I'm twisted. Getting old. Whatever. I've had the Boss, GT500, Hertz, SVO, 351C Mach 1, and I still love this @%$#**&^ SuperCoupe!!!. LOL It's fast, and can be faster. It's comfortable, has A/C, p/s, CD, ABS, way outsteers that Boss, and looks great. I guess I'm no fun, huh?

I think I'd like to add this one to my list (http://madmaxmovies.com/cars/interceptor/history1.html)

May be one of the ugliest, but it's just about as cool as they come! Yep, it's a Ford. I'd always thought it was a Holden.

02-13-2003, 01:51 AM
 :D BADASS

02-13-2003, 04:06 PM
03 Cobra or a 95 SC with about 12k worth of engine mods.

7 days in a week right?
Sat: Gt-40 (not the 289)
Sun: DeTomaso Pantera with the funny looking flares and wing...Gts I believe
Mon-Fri: Escort with the cossy, XR4Ti, and Scorpio with the cossy to be choosen at random each morning...can the Escort be done up like the one in Getaway in Stockholm II? 350+hp and awd in a Scort would have to be a good time:D

02-14-2003, 10:03 PM
A 1995 SC, Royal Blue with grey cloth, moonroof, automatic, JBL CD/Tape. 60,000 miles spotless inside and out. Oh wait i will be getting my dream car next sat. He he, sorry guys I am posting about it again. Just excited about getting rid of the 89 and getting a 95. Can't wait.

02-15-2003, 03:02 AM
Kinda like the Eurospec Cosworth (guess all the Cosworths were Euro spec) 4 wheel drive escorts with the 200+ hp... but I'm thinking these days maybe a 2005 Mustang Cobra? Or if they keep making the Mach 1... saw one of the new ones at Friday night Drags last week, love the shaker hood :-)

Joey OKC
02-15-2003, 03:06 AM
Well, since it has a ford powerplant, i guess it counts.....I'd take a DeTomaso Pantera. Italian design wraped around a 351C. Fun stuff.

02-15-2003, 03:17 AM
Showed my wife a picture of the new Mustang. She went for it right away! Think I'd have to put it off until the fastback came with a Cobra package and then go all out.
MM&FF said that the Mach 1 was limited to like 6500(?), and they already had 7000 on a waiting list. Maybe they will keep it around. If not, I bet that shaker pops back up again. It'd be a shame to develop that and then not use it. That thing was fast, I think they got a 13.1 1/4 with no mod's and stock tires.
