does anyone know if the later sc had the irs like the earlier models and ifso how hard it would be to swap from a regular rearend to the irs.
 
What do you mean by "regular rearend"?

By the way, all 1989-1997 Thunderbirds & Cougars have IRS.

just to add to this, all SC's and V8's have the 8.8 IRS, while the V6 NA have the 7.5 IRS. Also all Mark 8's have 8.8 IRS same as the its lesser $$ brother MN-12's
