quarter mile times and traction

this might sound like a stupid question but i am sure one of you guys would have the answer. a guy i work with says that he can run 9 and 11 sec. quarter mile times with 225 tires. 9 sec. with nos of course. he has a '72 chevelle with a 350 in it. i know the numbers are possible with the engine. my only question was, is it possible to have that much horsepower and keep the rear end under control with 225's? i also know that some tires are better than others. that just doesnt sound right to me.

Sounds like a load of BS to me. There are guys that run 9's on BFG Drag radials but this is with a purpose built(read: Race Only) car on a 315 tire.

No way. To run 9's you would have to have full racing slicks. And 11 on street tires i would tell him that hes full of S***.

kinda figured that

i kinda figured that would be the reply, but i just wanted to reassure that. i think he said that they were street/strip tires, but even at that, no way.
