I've been reading alot of transmission threads and their problems. My 1990 35th 5-speed has a rebuilt tranny and a new performance clutch (from what the guy told me, he is a good friend of mine) and yet i still have to shift so slow. Its hard to put it in first, finnaly it goes in smoothly (after 3-6 trys). Then when i shift into second it grinds, even at low RPMs. Help me!!!

Try this. If your clutch fluid was not bled properly, you may have air in the hydraulic system. If this is the case, your clutch will not fully disengage, which will make it difficult to switch gears.

The giveaway would be checking your clutch fluid reservoir on the driver's side of the vehicle, under the hood. The other sign that this is the problem would be the clutch engaging right away, with very little clutch travel.

Are these the symptoms you are noticing?
