Here's what it did for me:

If you've never used a clay bar on your car, you should definitely do it. Clay Magic makes a good bar that comes with the spray lubricant. Wash with Dawn first to strip all the old wax. After the clay bar only, my car was as reflective as after waxing with Meguire's before. It gives great results. You might use a cleaner wax too, but maybe not something as abrasive as a rubbing compound. There's a pretty good test to see if you need to clay:
Take a very thin plastic sandwich bag, but your hand in it and feel your paint. You'll feel bumps in the paint you never knew were there. The clay works like an eraser for marks that might not come out otherwise too. Use it very lightly and go over everything with several swipes. The best idea I've heard it to tear the bar into 4 pieces. If you drop one, you have to throw it away, so don't ruin the whole thing with one drop.

Do it, you'll love it.
