I just put new ball joints and tie rod ends in the front end except the upper control arm ball joint assembly, i don't think its the struts, could it be from the steering rack?or is it the upper control arm ball joint?

Hey Man,
You might also want to check the bolts that fasten the cross member to the body of the car. If they are loose than you could get that popping sound when you are turning your wheels or going over bumps.

Sometimes the stabilizer bar end links can make a noise under certain conditions as well ...

Is that normal? I've got a popping, usually on slow sharp turns like going into a parking place. New control arms top/bottom and the front end is all in good shape. It hasn't gotten worse, been about 3 mos.

Dude let me tell you right now get a breaker bar or impact with 6in ext. with a star socket or 9/16 works too. And tighten those crossmember bolts should be 8 altogether. Slow parking manuvers and speed bumps were driving me crazy and replaced 3 different bushings for nothing. Took someones advice(from this site of course) and guess what? NO MORE POPPING. Had that for over a year thinking a mount was bad. Sure makes driving a lot more pleasureable.

ditto to what everyone else is saying, i got my car back after motor mounts and a waterpump and it was doing this, i had already replaced teh lower ball joints so i knew it wasnt them, replaced the upper right control arm a month later when the car was getting repainted. still popped....drove to carlisle, asked around about it, a guy who was a mechanic asked me to let him drive it, i did, he said it was the subframe, and he tightened the bolts, and i havent heard that noise again and its been almost a year.

Doing it even in a straight line. Turned out that the sway bar end links were completely worn out. I replaced them and I would say that the car almost feels as good as new.

I just tighten all four4 star bolts on each side, i was woundering if it was gonna work. They were pretty loose then i tighten them up with the 9/16 on a 1/2 drive with 6 inch ext. and took it for a test drive and no more popping at all. i can still hardly believe it, thanks a lot for the advise, driving is a pleasure once again.:)
