My vote goes for Denver, that way it would still be somewhat reasonable for some of the eastern guys to attend, don't smack it all the way up in Washington or anything like that. LOL.

Ummm I don't get it, under 10 hours would mean furthest it could go would be OKC, Tulsa, Kansas City. That's it. What about the guys out west, they've been driving quite a ways the last two years.

:edit:
And about the altitude thing.
1) It effects everyone there!
2) Maybe Albuquerque (and it's still high elevation), that's about only other choice before moving it WAY west.

I think Nevada or Arizona would sound good. I would go to a meet in those areas, or down here in Texas would be even better for me. If its near these areas then it will probably be the first meet i attend, looking forward to it though.

I think that it would be good to have it out in the west, but not somewhere as hot as Arizona. It should be held a little more Eastern than that. But then again I'll be the last to argue if it ends up in Nevada. :D  right .
Either way someone let me know what's going on so I can come:confused:

how about having one up in Minnesota(maybe 2k4 if 2k3 is going to the west). We've got a 1/4 in Moorhead that the uppermidwest thundercats will be checkin out next weekend (I'll shoot updates later). there's also Brainerd International Raceway in Brainerd, MN. I don't know how easy that would be to get though - could always try. There is also a road course at BIR which is part of the 1/4 (actually, 1/4 is backstretch of the track) Plenty of Lodging at either place. Both aren't much more than 200 miles from the canadian border. There's also brookings South Dakota that's be great for some of us northern guys.
I'm just full of thoughts...

Colorado Springs, Colorado. The weather is great. Right at the foot of the Rockies. Less than an hour from Denver. Big enough to have anything you want to do (within reason!) and small enough to Not have metropolitan problems. And close enough we old Confederates can make it with out having to take a fortnight off from work.

Oregon, I think, would be a good place. After reading what people want and don't want, it has:
Scenic areas
NHRA Certified Track in Woodburn
Portland International Raceway (Holds CART Races, also has a 1/4)
Low elevation
Nice distance for Canadian members and Southern U.S. members
And many more key features that I just can't think of right now
Oregon is nice place, and I would think would be a good choice for a meeting.

The WEST???? Hey man, I would say that most of the suggestions are pretty damn good.
Minnisota, is a pretty damn good idea...Nevada is always a good idea...Northern CA. would be ok as well...Colarado, I dunno bout that...To hold it in the state of Washington would be cool, but it is the furthest corner on the map...~~~~~ why not Alaska then...???Instead of bringin' your slicks, bring your chains...LOL
In my opinion the top picks in the WEST would be:
MINN. "Twinn Cities"
Reno or Vegas
Nor.Cal
This is too cool...Hope it works out well for everyone...

Ya know I don't really see why it is not somwhere in the middle every year...The West coast only has to travel halway across the states every other year and clear across the states all the other times...~~~?? Am I missing something here?

Denver would be ok as I'm close, there would be lots of SC locals to attend. Great track....5,200ft, except cars don't run great there..My CMRE S2 posted a best of 14.3 on good tires, where in Kansas City it ran 13.5 on bad tires!
Casper Wyo does not have a strip. the closest is Douglas Wyo....but I've heard it may close! Also a high altitude track...5000ft
My choice would be the small town of Kearny Neb. in the center of Neb. Good track and a Good facilities! Track elev. 2000ft
My other choice would be Phoenix,...Firebird would be great!
S. Dakota is Ok, or Minn. Another Idea would be
Grand Jct. Co. its got a good track and 3000ft elev. Its on the western slope of the Rockies. This would force the estern guys to drive thru the Rockies and really see how an SC can eat other cars in the canyons! The Supercharger has its benifits at elevation! Ask Dr. Fred
And keep in mind last years meet was way too far east for us western guys! This thing is suppost to move around so everyone can enjoy it!

Thanks for everyones suggestions so far, keep them coming as they could become an upcoming location.
The reason that we do not want to keep it in one location every years is to give all MN-12 owners the chance to get to one without traveling 20+hrs. Even though this makes our job harder, but I would perfer new places every so often.
Dont get me wrong St. Louis would work great for me, only an hour drive, but what fun is that? So far both meets have been a drive for me, 11 hrs for 2001 and 6 hrs for 2002. One of the added benefits from having a roaming meet is you get to visit new places and meet new people!
For the following years the plan will go as follows:
2003 - Western US ( Denver, Reno, Vegas, etc.)
2004 - Eastern US (?)
2005 - Southern US ( Fort Worth, ?)
2006 - Northern US/Canada (?)
2007 - Midwest US (STL, Nashville, etc)
Now these location will not be extremes either, and what I mean is that the meet will not be on the far west coast, or the far east coast, unless there is an agreement on a location, such as Sears Point, CA for example.
Each area that will be holding the meet should meet these basic requirements:
1) Have a 1/4 mi drag strip
2) Dyno facilities
3) Good hotel options *burnouts at 2am must be permitted!
4) Banquet room facilities
5) Big parking lot for car show
optional, but desired:
1) Road Course
2) Auto Cross
3) Scenic Drives
4) stuff for families to do
If there is anything that has not been at the Nationals that you would like to see there, let me know. I am open for suggestions.

Someone mentioned the Twin Cities? I gotta say no there, there is no track in town.
Tracks In MN--
Red Rock (I think it is) down in the south east corner. also known as slippery rock because of lack of traction -> bad track
There's an 1/8 west of the cities about an hour or two, but, it's an 1/8.
Also Interstate Dragways in Moorhead MN. Right on the intersectiobn of 2 interstates. Fairly small town so it's not too hard to get around, yet there's stuff to do. I'm not real sure on the track though. I was there and was hooking great with my cooper cobras at 45psi and running 15.8, but the SC with wider tires at 25psi couldn't hook at all and was still only cutting 15.4 (stock). Traction might be a problem there. It's also a small track - and in all honestly would probably compare to elkhart (heard, never was there).
The best option for MN would be Brainerd INTL Raceway. NHRA sanctioned, part of the circuit. Great track, long road course (not sure if it'd be open to us though). On site camping, and the whole city is a tourist trap -> lots of stuff to do. Not sure on dyno facilities though, and I'm thinking that if MN12 nats were to get the track, there's the possibility that the burnout comp. could be held there. The track is appx. 8 miles from town (however it's pretty much built up from town to the track now). Plenty of hotels i'm sure as well as on site condos/etc.
There is also the track in brookings SD that I'd like to see(still good for us uppermidwest guys and canaday guys). I havne't been there but know a guy that has that I could get into contact with.

I think its a good idea to move it aound every year!
NSRA and other orginizations move there national events around too.
NSRA moves from OKC, Memphis, St Paul, Culumbus. Then they do regional events (mini-nats) in the areas that dont have the nationals that year.
I realize that we dont have 15,000 cars to draw from ....... but we can use there example to set something up!
The big thing is to pick four good locations and get something set up. I couldnt make it to this years Nats because I didn't have enough time to work out the time off.
Most people would love to go to a Nat's but by the time you pick a date and location it's to late to get any time off!
Boostman23

We are trying to get future nationals setup early. So as 2003 comes together hopefully 2004 and 2005 will be almost complete as the 2003 nationals rolls around.
The MN-12 Nationals is still in a learning and growing process. I learned alot this year with what to expect and where I could make things better. I also learned that I can not do this by myself. I will be utilizing more help from those in the area that the nationals will be held, so that things go more smoothly. The logistics of a national meet can be hard to handle when you can not physically visit the places that we would be using, until the time of the meet.
I had alot of people offer help after the 2002 meet, and I will utilize alot of it. This meet was made for one purpose, and one purpose only, to have a good time, and meet fellow MN12 owners. So far that is being accomplished, and slowly this meet will become the meet, I would assume, that all of us hope it will become. The MN12 community is small, but unique and very diverse in the people that make up that community, and I hope that one day everyone that attends the Nationals will walk away a more informed, content MN12 owner.

Boostman23,
Don't get me wrong, I applaud your efforts and the intent of my last post was to offer you encouragement to set up a rotating group of locations and not to let a few well meaning BBS users to influnce you into changing the posible locations all of the time.
Running the Iowa SC club is a full time job some days .... so I can only imagine what it would be like to do a National event. :D
I think you are on the right track!
I have one suggestion that may give you some better insite in to where you should hold future events. I suggest that you pole MN12 owners (by email address and name so you can get an accurate count and so no one can respond more than once), to find out some info. The info you need is: find out were they live, how far they are willing to travel and how much they are willing to spend for food, motels, gas, and so on.
Once you detirmine how many pertisapants you have available and were they live, you can deside on the best 4-6 locations for the MN12 Nats. Once you have the locations nailed down, you can pick hotels and motels in those areas based on how much people will spend ......... and so on down the line!
Keep up the good work! If you have any questions, drop me a line anytime ....... After all ..... we're all in this together!

i know the west coast is probably too much to ask for 70% of this board. i have never been to a national meet since this is the first year we have supercoupes in my family.
i do however thing that portland, oregon woudl be an awsome place to hold it. its vertically centered in a good spot for the south US and canadain members to attend. i do however know that it is way too far west for everyone. and a place like in the easter idaho or montana area woudl be best.
but portland does have PIR. a real race course, not some dinky 1/4 mile track. no to bash on everyone who has 12-13 second 1/4mile cars but i think a real road track would be way fun to drive.
im not tryin to piss anyone off just posting my opinion even though its probabyl way late.

The Central Florida Cobra Sports Car club is holding a meet there this month I've heard.......anyway, keep it in mind for future options.

The Thunderbird Hotel....Yea, I saw it when I was there..SCCoSW 1&,3.The SCCoSW has had 3-4 meets in Vegas over the last couple of years. Kelly Simons (lives there)is the guy who has set eveything up in the past. He's always put together great events, Track, dyno, awards, sandwiches>>>he,he (inside joke).
He would know about the T-Bird hotel. One thing about Vegas is things need to be planned well in advance in order to have a good meet, as Vegas is a busy place with lots of other events going on all the time. $$$ cost of rooms, activities, and events are always subject to the time of an event.
If theres further interest in Vegas as a location, I think someone should contact K. Simons as he would know everything!

PMI is a nice course out by Pueblo resevoir, has decent , cheap motels within 5 miles. Drag strip runs just about every weekend, road course has to be reserved as it uses the 1/4 mile strip as part of the track. Need anymore info: csarnold@netzero.net

wow, when it was said the thing would be held west, i thought you meant west! im not too good with a map but the way i look at colorado is mid-west. which the way i remember we had already planned one in the future for mid-west (have we not?)and this one was supossed to be for the west.
maybe i should go re-read the schedule for over the next years.
yea 2007 will be midwest, and the way i look at it is that colorado is midwest. i still think washington or oregon would be really great places to have it (especially since they ARE on the west coast).

I think Rob is on the right track..if it is in CO, Denver would and is Nuts, Bandamere is nuts...Too damn many things going on...We'd never get in except on Friday! Not only that but its 6000+ft
Pueblo is a nice location and the elevation is around 4000ft. They have good facilities and we could get in, also maybe road race for those interested.
We need to finalize it soon though so things can be set up!
The only other option in CO is Grand Jct....which would be nice too! Either way I'm here help along with the other CO SCers
I hope itsOK, to Commit Dr Fred to the aid...??Fred???

Grand Junction & Denver are still 15-20hr drives from the left coast, depending on where you are on the coast. Denver's 2/5's of the way accross the country for me! Guys in the Northwest can tack on another hr. LA to Denver is about the same as Chicago to Denver - check the map! With my business it's real hard to take more than a couple of days off. NV, AZ, UT, CO & NM are as far as I can go. Comparison between the 2 CO sites is: Grand junction is a little lower and has very low humidity, both have lower summer temperatures and humidity than most places in the mis-named "Mid-West". Man, I'd like to make a National event!

I'm going to attend this year and I just was going to throw in that if it really is to be in the West, shouldn't it be West of the Rockies at least if it's going to be west?
Sure Colorado sounds good, but the state will still be there when the Mid-west site time occurs.

Hey everybody!!!! I am new and all to this but I would like to get into this more and meet more fellow SC owners. I would have to agree with Todd Jelle on having the meet in Colorado... Denver or Colorado Springs would work. If not, thats ok. I am just hoping it is somewhere close because my husband and I would love to attend. Seems like it would be great fun!!!

ok im no genuis, but im pretty sure CO would be considered mid-west and not west. there is already a midwest location scheduled later. but you are insisting this idea of CO is west. not west enoguh im afraid, its midwest. maybe we can trade years with the midwest one. i would hate for the west to get screwed having no years and the midwest get two years in one rotation.

I have driven to Las Vegas for meets and seen few West coast SCers show to those meets, Ive driven to OK city and KC and seen few eastern state SCers there, They have Carlsilile every year. I agree somewhat that CO is a borderline western state, I'd call it west central. and last year the meet was east central.
I still think Pueblo CO is a good location for a meet. You can't please everyone and lf this is not settled on soon it leaves those in control or helping with little time to set up things for a smooth flowing, nice event.
.WE gotta get with it soon!
I'm sure there are plans in the future for a "west coast" event!
The way I see it if you want to be there you'll get there!
I live in CO,...& would have no problem with driving to the east or west coast as long as I know the trip will be worth it!
I've been to an MN12 meet before & its worth it!

This will always be a problem when planning any kind of big car meet. There will always be people that wont be pleased with the location.
Last year I tried a vote, and let everyone choose the location, well that ended up being Indy, which happens to be the worst place to go during the Labor day weekend as the US nationals are held there. Mostly my fault as I was unaware of this event at the time, so I made plans for something that was close by, Elkhart.
So I learned that in order to get the meet decided on, and set up in time it has to be a decision made by the people that are setting the meet up. Maybe in the future the vote will be the way it is decided on again, but for now this is the way it is done.
Here is a map of the meets so far, with the possible location of the 2003. I should find out tomorrow if it is even possible for the meet to take place there.

I live in the midwest and do not agree that Colorado is a midwest state, and if it is held in Colorado it will be the furthest West an MN-12 National meet has been held. This will be a 17 hour drive for me at least, which I do not mind. Everyone should try to think of this as a vacation as well, and not just a car meet, hopefully that will give you enough motivation to drive 20 hours, 30+ hours if you are from the East coast.
Well with that being said, hope everyone enjoys the 3 day weekend! I know I will be try to run done a fuel problem on my SC, and trying to get my Stealth RT/TT back on the road so I can stop driving this damn dodge dakota.

Cool thing is I got a friend in Colorado Springs (works at intel) so either way, I think I'm game.
I personally drove from Ohio to Colorado and back this past summer and its really NOT that bad of a drive (honestly), 95 degrees out almost the whole way. Took me a day, I started at around 5:30am and got there around midnight. I would've got there around 10pm but I had a trans line to my cooler split (set me back about 3 hours)
If my xr7's done by then and maybe a 97 I'm looking at, I'll be sure to bring them out :)

So it appears that the 2003 Nationals will be in Colorado. I am not going to be able to attend this year then. Have fun guys. The Nationals is truely a great event.
I will be attending the Ford Expo in Columbus, OH if some mid-west folks are looking for an alternative event during the Labor Day weekend.

I guess it is too late to vote. I am not sure what the agenda is, but if it is to be fare to all parts of the country then it seems we need to go to the coast. What about contacting the groups on the coast about this? Oregon chirped up. I live in TX and travel to Utah alot. It is a dang far drive from SLC to Pullman, WA for instance. I would not dare mention TX as a place for the West even though I live here. CO. used to be part of TX. If I can I will attend to support the decision but I will be surprised if this draws the West into this. You have to go all the way to the coast where the population is. I feel all this accomplishes is making it convenient for us in the Central States and difficult for the Easterners.
At least in the future why not have a local chapter in that part of the country plan the event?

For 2005 I vote Ft. Worth. See www.motorsportranch.com
A second track is under construction on the ranch. The clubhouse is finished and can be rented. There are showers and plenty of parking as well. Not sure if owner would allow overnighters, but Hotels are in Ft. Worth proper or down the road in Granbury.
For $95/car we can have use of the track where the staff will train us in road racing in car (groups follow the leader at some speed) and classroom, on the 11 turn track. Then let us have an open session. All in our own cars. But I would need to know soon to get us on the schedule. There is also dyno for hire on site and a skid pad. I live 3 miles down the road and have limited room for some campers or parking, if needed. We have drag strips in the MetroPlex as you know, and of course the sorta big oval.
There is a new huge World Class Race track facility being built in the area to bring European road racing to Dallas/Ft Worth area as well and should be finished by then. I believe a Drag Strip is included. The owner of MSRanch has a part in that track as well. I can find out more as I know him fairly well.
Just a thought.

Hey whats up everyone, im usually at Tccoa but just felt like droppin a line over here. Hey i hear theres talk about having the 2003 meet on this part of the country, washington is a great place to cruse, we just had our track re-done, it was SIR but now its under new managment and called PR ( pacific raceways ) I have no problem trailering the bird if its somewhere else, but Seattle needs a flock of birds/cats to clog up the streets. Its cool that no matter where i go in seattle or surrounding cities that im known to many as the BirdMan. Anyways keep me informed on the place it will be held
