Custom MAF

Has anyone tried to make their own MAF by using like a 3 or 4 inch straight eshaust pipe with a hole drilled for the sensor, and mount the elctronics with some clear silicone.

It would take some testing but it could be done. It all depends on how much time you want to spend on trying it out. I have seen kits for blowthrough MAF setups where there was a flat pad welded to a pipe in the system. I haven't ever seen the inside to see what was there as far as how the sampling tube was done. Basically you need a sampling tube that will give you the same voltage curve as stock.

the meter has to be calibrated to the meter body, so the short answer is no, that won't work.

THe long answer is yet, but you would need to have the MAF flowed at several voltage pointes. Even then, the transfer function would still have to be calibrated at the dyno.
