Anyone coated their own headers?

I can get some good coatings and have access to an oven to bake them but can I do it right? I figure I can get the coatings for about $30. All I need to figure out is how to clean up something like a used header good enough for it to stick well. Any suggestions?

Oh, by the way I am picking up some 97 Mustang tube headers that I will be using for this. May take me a while to be able to put them on but while I wait for the money to rebuild my exhaust(Again!!!!) I can prep and coat the headers myself.

I used a wire brush and sand blasted the manifolds on my corvette. I then used the manifold paint from Either Midway Corvette or Summit. I then baked them as specified and the coating has been on there for about 5 years with no problems.
