So i am at this stoplight yesturday and this car pulls right up next to me and is layin back just a little. and i look at it and see it is a wrx and i am like this dude is gonna try and smoke me so i said ok lets see what ya got. i knew it was turbo charged and probly a TON lighter than my car but i wasnt gonna give him the satisfaction of just running away on this ford. So we get the green and i didnt even lay into it much i just kinda eased off the line and i seen him punch it. So i punched it and jumped out to about a car length lead. I started to get up to this turn i looked at my speed and i was going 90 and i was like well he is still about a car length behind. This turn wasnt a sharp on and i just decided in my best interest i would lay off the gas a little cause i didnt need to wreck my SC. this is when he went by me and i was like ok screw it let see if i can catch him. so we got to this straight away and now he was about 2 car lengths ahead. so i punched it again. and i pegged my MPH gage and was gaining a little then all the sudden i just flew by him. i dont know if his car topped out or he let off the gas but i sure was comin up on him fast and i flew by him and gave him a smirk as i went by. I really didnt expect to keep up with him very long just because of the weight difference and the fact that his car was almost brand new. But when he did pass me the one time i did notice a nice big ricer, coffee can muffler and that just added to the fact that i wanted to show him some home made power. i was very impressed with my SC and how it ran. That just made me want to go out and by some more perofrmance parts cause i seen what the ones i got on there can do. i just wanted to tell u guys cause i thought some of u might appreciate it. I dont usually like to race but it seemed like this guy thought he was just gonna blow by me and i didnt want to let him go to his forum and say he smoked a SC ;)

Good kill! I'm curious to know if you could tell if it was a manual or auto? I really would expect the manual to take out an SC, off the line especially, but even then the guy could miss a shift or not know what he's doing. I think they are supposed to run out of wind towards the end of the 1/4, but I could be wrong. That's a good kill regardless.

Have fun, be safe!

awesome

Ive been wondering about those things.. i know they are a bit quicker than a stock SC, but glad to hear you took care of one. i know just how u feel after a race.... you just want to go buy all these things for your car, and you're thinking, "man if only i had this, i wouldve REALLY killed him!" Good stuff...

An SC with mods should take a stock WRX, but not by much. The 5 speed WRX is faster than the auto, but it's not an easy stick to drive. The magazines were able to get 1/4 mile times around 14.2-14.5 with their "pro" drivers, but most stock WRX's I've seen at the track run slower than that. However, the annoying thing about many turbo cars, this one included, is that you can drop in about $500 worth of mods and be easily in the 13's if you know how to drive it...

hey guys. thanks. i couldnt tell if it was an auto or not. all i know is that i thought the thing would beat me since it is just a little bigger than a escort but has a turbo haha. well maybe it is a little bigger than that but u get what i mean. but like i said the only mods i could tell her had was the ricer muffler and that was just before i zipped by him the second time. but i was very happy with my SC hehe. the feeling i get is that i should buy it something nice for the good job it did haha. and plus my car is 13 yrs old and only cost me 3500 bucks haha and i can still run with some of the newer, lighter cars. I really believe the SC was way ahead of its time and these types of days make up for the days when u hate your SC cause it is busted and is gonna cost a ton. I am just really happy with how it performed. (if ya cant tell haha) that is my first kill of this new season so that might be why i am so happy haha. talk to u all later.

Just an observation....

but I don't think I've ever seen an article on the WRX that listed an auto as an option?

Yep, auto is an option just like the hatchback version is. The auto is known to be a slug compared to the 5 spd. I think Road & Track had one in a comparo with a couple of other import wagon-type cars not too long ago.

I raced a WRX in the mountains between Sacramento & Lake Tahoe (Hwy 50) last year sometime. I pulled away from him in a couple of the passing lanes. Finally I left him in some tight corners. I think it was my driving experience more than anything. I think I've been driving for as long as He been in this world. He looked to be like 16 or 17. Also the only people who know that road better than me are Highway Patrol & Sheriff.

Thanks for the warning sign (I "stole" it)

Gonna make a couple of labels and stick 'em on the dash in front of the passenger seats. :D I think my GF will love it!

What else would you expect from a Dirty Old Man? :p

What are yousmokin?!?!??!

ummmm, im sorry but either he wasnt tryin or he was like mentally handicapped (no offence to any SCCOA members that are) but a WRX would be able to blow an SC away. they run
0-60 in 5.6sec for the manual and 6.1 for the auto. ive driven 4 of them and all of them were hella faster than my Cougar XR7. Id deffinately say think twice before gettin too over enthusiastic over a lil street race. he could have been merely playin with ya. and the WRXs cut off at about 143 so you would have had to be going pretty damn quick. now dont get me wrong. i would deff say that it would be a close race: WRX vs. SC . but id deff take the WRX over the SC anyday. the power to weight ratio is way better in those beasts. not to mention the all wheel drive that makes spinnin the tires off the line basically impossible.

just my .02

well he DOES mentions have some mods on his car...
so if he has enough he could have easily beat the wrx, it depends on what mods it has. if it only had the muffler, then i say he should have beat it. either way, good kill.

thanks
yeah my car isnt stock by any means. but it isnt yet heavily modded either. The reason i am excited is because of the power increase i have noticed over what it had last yr. and this dude was definetly tryin because he was pretty pissed when i passed him the second time, by the looks of his facial expression and the hand signal he gave me when he turned way up the road. and if he was playin with me then why would he be a car length behind me the whole time? wouldnt he try and pass me? i thought that was what a race was. He only passed me when i let off the gas because i wasnt gonna take a chance in the area we were racing. it just wasnt worth it. and then when i passed him the second time u would think he would have tried to keep me at bay but i still ran by him. So say what u will about him not trying but maybe it is just harder to admit that some 13 yr old equipment can still hang with new technology and power. GO FORD!!!

Why is it some people always thinks SC's have to stay at 15.x's? My SC is pretty souped up and I raced a WRX last week. I'm pretty sure his WRX had some mods by the way it ran. Didn't make much difference to me, I was able to put 3 lenghts on him in every gear. That's real car lengths not Subaru lengths. I raced him 3 times also because I don't think he could accept it and thought eventually he would win. I raced one a while back in my 1983 3.8 Mustang Vert that's all raced out. That WRX would jump be big time out of the hole, about 3-4 lengths, but then started loosing groung slowly once the Stang got up on the cam and started haulin'. After the Mustang got into the power band we ran about 2 lengths apart at the quarter mile mark. With the right gears, stall, and traction I'm pretty sure I could take one with the Stang.

Now my brothers car is really pissing me off. He turned his '95 SC over to me along with the notes and bought a new LS1 Z28 six speed. I drove it when he first got it and knew it was about as fast as my car so I just redid my car with many years acumulation of go fast parts and thought for sure I would take him. Well the smart alick has been working on his LS1 also. He's put long tube headers, ported mass air, a SLP air box, and a Borla exhaust on his car. Last weekend we drove 3 hours following each other. I can jump him about 2-3 lengths off the line and in a quarter mile we would be very close but from a rolling start he can pull half a car on me in each gear. Not much, but it's freakin annoying since almost anything he knows about cars he learned from me. He admits my SC is a lot faster than he thought it would be but still thinks he is king. I told him his days were numbered and I have yet begun to fight. At least our youngest brother told us my car sounds better with the rumpity rump cam.

For those who can't understand that SC's can go much faster than his own think about this. My SC will kill a stock LS1 car, no question. 2-3 lengths off the line and faster acceleration. I don't care how many you drove and how much faster than your car they were, they aren't faster than mine. As for a stock WRX, please.

I just realized that most of you don't know me like the old timers do. My SC is a '91, the '95 has some mods but isn't nearly like the '91 or my brothers Z28. So I wasn't racing him in the car he turned over to me.

if you had some decent mods it woulda been a damn good race. im glad your SC is kicken some ***. i was just letting everyone know whats up with those WRXs since everyone on this site seems to be import haters. lol. i would deff say if you had the right mods, i guess it wouldnt be too hard to take a WRX. if he was tryin the a way big thumbs up to ya. it takes some hair to take out a 2600lb car with a 3800 lb car. lol. GOOD JOB!!!

Well nobody can call me an import hater as one of my cars was built in Japan, not just the name, it rolled off a ship in California with "Made in Japan" stamped on the frame. Little squinty eyed fellas in white jump suits, hats and shoes put it together--LOL. I own and tinker around with a 1981 Mazda RX-7. It's the neatest little bugger and it's made me belive that I would enjoy a last gen RX-7 turbo as much as anything else I could ever own. Rotary engines F'N ROCK! I was just thinking about picking up a blown motor type R1 when "The Fags And The Curious" came out and RX-7 Turbo prices quadrupled in about a month. Oh well.

I've got nothing against Japan anymore, they appoligized for thier actions in WWII a long time ago and have become a decent ally. Generations have came and gone. The fact that they are one of our greatest competitors and have put a bunch of America out of business is our own fault, we gave it to them. Nowadays several Japanese companys have come over and put Americans to work so what can you say? They eat at Mc Donalds just like we do (well some of us, I don't).

Anyways one of my customers is a young guy about 20 who is into imports and has a WRX with a few substantial mods. I think he said he's getting 250 or better at the wheels which is damn strong for such a little car. I haven't raced him but it would be fun.

Don't get me wrong Ricers suck a$$! But a decent performance car is just that, whether it came from America, Europe, or the Far East (But Austrailian cars are the kick but best!--LOL). Just joking, the world has produced some amazing machines over the years but it's still hard to beat the performance of an good old American RWD hot rod Ford 3800 lb. 5-passenger 12 second street car with Lincoln brakes.-lol.

It's all good Joel, but seriously get that Super Cat up to speed before you give the rest of us a bad rep! Import racers know you've got a Ford engine so there's no excuse for going slow!

in my 1983 3.8 Mustang Vert that's all raced out.
I can just vouch for the total sleeper that car is......I was impressed not long ago. Very close to Vernon's but only blue!
