At the moment I figure to be sitting on somewhere between $1000 and $1500 of new uninstalled parts to include:

BHJ Harmonic Balancer
Harris Pulley (en route)
Chip Tuner
42 lb injectors
255 lph forced fuel pump
Engine Mounts
Transmission Mount
Differential Bushings (???)
Bluetongue Aluminum Roller Rockers (en route)

My plan of the moment is to have AAA tow the car to Loper's Performance and have Mike the engine builder design, balance, blueprint, and build it. Ideally I'd be looking for around (censored - it'll be a surprise) HP after a rebuilt and ported supercharger, plenum, and 85mm TB.
All I need now is a job and $8500 to get started.

I also have reasonable faith that shortly after the engine rebuild the transmission will go.

So in other words... my project is on hold and I'm borrowing my mother's Hyundai - pending termination of this school term (mid-May) and my becoming gainfully employed.

Buddy can you spare a job?

I've been lucky thus far... especially with the crotch-rocket... although I've been having a happy time with mom's hyundai at the moment <sigh>. I end up having to do the 101 fairly regular back and forth from Mesa to my folks place up at 64th and Cactus. Careful, or we can start a big discussion about damn stupid Arizona drivers who haven't figured out that trucks and slower drivers should keep right. In Europe we drove MUCH faster (well - ok - maybe it was quasi legal... but anyway) and I still felt a lot safer even splitting lanes (which was legal) because the drivers didn't keep their heads located in their fourth points of contact (happy to explain if anyone doesn't know what that is or can't guess).

I live in North West Phoenix and do a daily drive from 76 AV to 90th st exit on the 101 twice daily. (92 black SC with 240,000 miles and still going strong and about to have to do another trans rebuild)

Feel like I have done everything on the SC except HGs. So also have the SCer scars from fixing stuff......

To get to the Pavillions take the 101 loop (East side of town) to the Indian Bend exit and go West, the Pavilians are about 1/4 of a mile down on your right hand (North) side ... there are a McDonalds, Best Buy, Home Depot, a big movie theatre... and a bunch of cars.

35th Anniversary Bird here....I'm the original owner, and it was once exclusively the family wheels, but that role is now served by an Acura TL (the Bird is still my toy, though!). It has 111,000 miles, is totally stock, just maintained (as in new tranny, many new batteries, fuel pump, power steering pump, front seat suede insert replacement, etc.)

I'm in Tucson, Ventana Canyon area in the northeast. I think this may be the only running Anniversary Bird in town...used to be at least one other one, but I've not laid eyes on it in over a year...

That's a nice looking 35th!

so far iv'e only seen one other sc/xr7 in Tucson EVER. it's a White 91/92 auto that i always saw driving to the University, but never got a chance to talk to the owner..

Andrew:cool:

P.S. I'll have to post some pics of the XR7

Don Pelley
12-26-2003, 06:35 AM
Love to see the XR-7! There aren't a ton of those around, either. I don't think I've seen that white SC, but there used to be another Anniversary Bird in town...it disappeared a year or so ago. Hey, you need seat covers?

I went to Jamis (south side of Speedway, just east of Swan) to have the suede inserts in my car replaced. Couldn't get the same pig suede, nor did I want to. I suggested (and he concurred) that ultra-suede would be a good idea. Wears well, and it's washable. He did a terrific job, even duplicating the stitching. Can't do the perfs, of course, since ultra-suede is really cloth, but even with just the front seats done, it looks identical. The limo tint windows in back help, of course.

Sounds great? It is... One problem. For the two seats, the bill was $942.50. In February, 1999...

Don

12-31-2003, 06:59 PM
Cool, I'll have go there and check them out. when i first got the car, i went to a few of the upholstry shops in Kingman to get some quotes. They wanted $1000 do redo the seats in leather and $600 to redo them in vynyl. since then I've had to take care of other things, so im probably gonna get some seat covers from www.Wetokole.com a friend of mine has a set in his SHO and i think that theyre worth all $300 that he paid for them.

Well anyways, here's some pic's of the Cougar. Sorry that they're not that great, it's been cloudy all week here and i need to clean my camera lens......

Neat car, Andrew! One doesn't see those around much, for sure. Hey, the seat thing IS EXPENSIVE, without doubt. I paid that in early 1999 -- I can just imagine what it'd cost now...but, at least the inserts look nice.

My next upholstery problem is the power bolsters... Every time I get in on out, the left one takes a rubbing. Going to have to replace the leather on it pretty soon...

Don Pelley
01-02-2004, 07:40 AM
Came close to a Borla exhaust system some time ago, didn't do it. Always wondered what the car would sound like... I HATE the sound of those little rice wagons running around with the big tin can exhausts! Hopefully, an SC doesn't sound like that, being a lower rpm engine...

Don

JSC
01-02-2004, 09:28 PM
I think anything sounds good with Borlas on it ! The SC sounds fine with a good resonator in place but with just straight muffs it can sound ricey. Alot of people swear by Dyno-max superturbo's
for the SC as far as tone goes.

I am not a Super Coupe owner, but I did receive my Ford 3.8L Supercharged V6 engine today (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7954619183).

My plan is to completely strip it down to bare components, take everything to a machine shop, and over the course of a year rebuild it (with lots of "bling" parts) and target 300-400 HP and 400-500 LBFT, then find a way to shoehorn it into my DeLorean (130HP/153LBFT stock, 2,750 LB with fluids full).

I joined this forum in hope of meeting people more familiar with this potentially impressive engine who would also be willing to provide any technical guidance along the way.

I didn't set my profile to accept direct e-mail because I get so much spam and any meaningful e-mail I get, is lost in a sea of spam.

I welcome any questions, tips, suggestions, and/or opinions. I hope this entire rebuild helps to generate pride and confidence in this engine and that the engine swap into my DeLorean is at the very least, successful if not fun.

My immediate need is to learn about this engine in great detail prior to dismantling and would like to know of any sources for the shop manual on CD ROM.

Thank you,

Also, I'm sure if you posted in the Technical Forum, you would get a lot of responses for this project, as I think I might be the only person left who's reading/posting on AZ Forum semi-regularly.

I'm in Tucson AZ and would like to be in the loop on things that go on with other people that also have a thunderbird SC. I have a 94 and I'm trying to convince my old lady that it's a great car and that we need to keep it. The owner before me put over 3 thousand in GO fast and suspension parts. Now I want to make it look good.

Cool cool. There are very few active in anything with coupes out here. I do think there is a decent TCCoA presence in Phoenix though.

I am in Arizona half the time and Utah the other half. I don't see as many TBirds around as I used to. I think most are in Tucson. I just bought a 90 SC but it will be stored in Utah this winter then next spring I will give it some TLC and get it road worthy.

Hello from Prescott Valley... I've acquired a 90 SC from California and am in the process of bringing it back to stock specs. Like to hear from other Prescott/Prescott Valley Thunderbird/Cougar owners. Marty

Hi Marty,

First of all welcome to the club! I am not in AZ, I am in the Southern California chapter. Since we are sort of neighbors feel free to ask any questions in the So-Cal Chapter. Also, the "technical" and "non-technical" forum is where lots of people post their questions. Oh, and the "search" function is really helpful when you are trying to get instant information. I know that the search function has helped me a lot...

Again, welcome to the club and a share some pictures of you SC

I'm in Prescott myself. I've met some SCCOA members in az already, and tccoa members too. But anyone that's still lives in AZ, we should get together and have a get together sometime this summer!

While I'm trying to get my 90 TBird SC into stock shape (fixing things so they work like they used to) I've become the owner of an 89 Cougar xr7 5 speed. It has had some work done on it and needs lots of loving care to get it into daily driver status but it should be fun... and as we all know... always challenging. I now have enough projects to last me for a while. Marty
