Please see attached pic with part circled.
I noticed this part on my 90 tbird n/a was completely rotted out with a hole in the centre. The passenger side one is ok.

What does this part do? The book says nothing about this part. Is it easy to get off? Is it very important(safety wise?)

I think I'll get one from the wreckers, I just wanted a heads up on it.
Thanks

I went through this last year. It is in the shop manual somewhere - I think it's called the rear subframe connector, or something like that. Mine was rusted too, and it was a PITA to remove. There is a two-part rubber bushing that this peice attaches to the subframe. The main bolt holding the bushing in place was frozen and took a long time to get out. If this doesn't happen, it should be easy to replace - but you have to jack up the car in the rear to get the piece off. I think they're not too expensive new from a dealer if you can't find one that is in good enough shape... For some reason, it always the driver's side that rots out first.
