I do ALOT of hwy driving and just put a new clutched 5-speed 2.73 pumpkin in my daily driver AOD SC.

Do I need to swap speedo gear? And if suggested what gear to get?

THANK YOU!

You'll need a white one out of a stock 5spd car. I think they are 17 tooth. Should be about $6 from the dealer. I have extra's, but at $6 it's hardly worth the postage but if you want I'll send you one....

Will the speedo gear from a 5-speed fit an automatic trans? The reason I ask is that the gears that have the same number of teeth have different Ford part numbers for 5-speed and auto. Here is the auto gear number for a 17 tooth green gear: C7SZ-17271-A

The difference between the auto. and manual trans speedo gears is the length of the gear. A manual trans. gear could be used in an auto., but not the other way around. It may not live as long because of the smaller contact area.

From what I can see, an AOD car has an 18-tooth gear with 3.27 ratio, and 17-tooth with 3.08s. So with 2.73, try the 16-tooth, which is Ford # D0AZ 17271 B.
