Opinions on hood pins (functionality)

I ordered a new hood for my car--the Design Concepts ram air hood and was wondering how important hood pins are. I see many people running aftermarket with out them, but some people say it's not safe to. So, I guess my question is, what do I need to do to make sure I have a safe and reliable latching mechanism (preferably without hood pins b/c I'm not a fan of that look). I don't want a new hood in my front window! Thanks in advance.

If you're really worried, I bet you could find a newer one for sale (latch that is), or even pick one up from a junk yard... You should just get some black hood pins. Anodized black. That'd look sweet. My friend is having this same dilemma over his hood.
