there is san antonio, it has 2 raceways (Rivercity Raceway (http://www.rivercityracewayinc.com/)) and (Alamo Dragway (http://www.alamodragway.com/)). But what exactly are you looking for in a meet-city?

Any place that we can get the maximum number of SC'ers in our area to attend.

San Antonio might be a good spot, that would be convenient for north (DFW, Lubbock, Amarillo, etc) & west (El Paso, Laredo, etc) Texas and of course the Austin crowd.

New Orleans would probably be great for Mississippi/Alabama and the Houston crowd.

Let's start lookin' at some dates for these meets. How's a 350-375 mile radius for meets sound?

I will do and already had done, 600 one way for a meet, so there is no limit to my range. But others may not be so fortunate......

Hopefully we can start throwing some dates around here in the next few days, we just need a few more to chime in and lets us know what they have in mind.....

Austin would be a great place!

Well I was pushing for a meet but now the 89 Auto does not work. We are already pulling 2 engines in 5spd birds. In my thread someone answered because the little plastic piece holding (what I would call a passing gear linkage, from my old age) broke lose and did not send signal to AOD and I lost 3 and 4. Anyway it only shifts 1-2. So my pretty car with new paint and leather is busted, unless anyone wants to increase my denial and tell me how to get it out of passing gear. I knew I never should have fixed up the auto car. I bought it for parts and listened to others. Oh well......

So I guess I would like to see an August date but hey don't let me spoil the party. We do have one 5spd about street legal, we hope. Gues we could convert this auto to a man.

Doug Franklin up here in DFW area (How I HATE automatics!!!!)

Edit: Now that I blew off steam, hey if we can make it T-Bird or not we will be there regardless of date, unless work calls me elswhere. I kinda like SA or Austin. I havn't been there in awhile & they are nice cities. I go to Houston too much, for work. DFW would be good but I would like to push for that when I have some good cars running and wouldn't mind helping with the set up, later on.

Just noticed the 96/97 nose is on a 94/95. Exactly what I wanted on my 95. Is it yours or who's? Looks goooood!!!

Avibank - Thats my SC with the '96-'97 front end.

I'm up for a Houston meet, however, if we decide on San Antonio then that would be even better for me.

Doug Franklin

Guess I need to nose job my 95. I like the 96-7 hood for sure.

Well I put the 95 back together stock, still low comp in one cyl, as we were short a car after 89 fiasco. 91 we discovered an oil-fouler on the front left spark plug. Never knew what one was before. Just got the miss out of it due to a burnt wire to that plug. Havn't run this car much since we bought it. So 2 running but not sure how far to drive and trust them, yet. But we will meet anywhere and hope to meet some of you more technical types in Houston. You guys make the call.

My wifes daughter just signed a lease and will move out soon. Also I am closing on a crummy little house in Cresson proper next week to move office to, or rent out in winter. So for the summer I may have some space here if wanted for a meet. Maybe arrange a little time one day at the Motorsport Ranch, but not sure if I can get scheduled. www.motorsportranch.com old web site and developed a little more since then. A dyno was supposed to go in. Will have to check. All but a drag strip here, unless they will mark off for us.

I mean honestly how many are in a say 150 mile radius that might show up for a local Meet here in the city somewhere.
I just drove 1200 miles and as much as I'd LOVE to show up for a meet in Texas my fiancee would kill me if I up and vanished for 3 days. Flip side there are many nice spots I've found in the week since I came to town that would hold 25-50 cars, have food available, are easy to find, do not have Speedbumps/high curbs(I'm low...), and are in New Orleans.
PS are there any exhaust noise restrictions in the city? I can't get the cops to give me a straight answer and I don't want to find out the hard way...

There are only a very few SC's in the New Orleans area, that I know of or seen in the past 2 years.

As far as a meet, we are doing Houston on the 19th and 20th of JULY not JUNE. You are more than welcome to caravan over with Colby and myself.

New Orleans streets are TERRIBLE, be careful driving around the city with a lowered SC.....you shall see!

Welcome Aboard!

Glad to be here 18 hours in a Penskee truck killed my back.
I'm just gald to have a nice mattress to sleep on and lots of pain killers.
Drop me a call sometime 736-9521
Do you know anything about the No Worrys Raceway?
I stumbled onto it at the juiceshop and it sounds pretty good.
2 mile roadcourse and a dragstrip all in one.
I was a member of the SCCOIA(www.sccoia.org) and head wrench turner up there.
The club was pretty loose as far as members there were about 8 SC's that came everytime for meets 2 or 3 V8 cars and a few NA V6's.
If you think these roads are bad you've not seen anything. We have a few people killed everyyear(DEAD) by frost heaves 2-3 feet high in the middle of the night BAM you can't even see them till it's too late.
These roads are smooth as glass compared.
I did manage to kill my strutrod bushings in one week though.
So yah I found that the main roads are fine the side roads are sometimes Ok and Kenners roads are pretty crappy.
People drive like they have NO brains here though ~~~ is that?

So the July 19-20th meet was canceled???
Man.. I just got my plugs, wires, and belts done, im still working on getting my EGR hooked up but other than that exhaust and everything is ready to go. I'm ready for a meet, so if we can relocate or even change the dates or anything... If anybody is willing to show up for a meet sometime this month or possibly even next month... let me know.
The best places for a meet in Texas i think would be Dallas/Ft. Worth, Houston, or San Antonio. There is also New Orleans... any other suggestions? and how many would show up to where...?

What if we did something crazy and made a vacation of it on the coast? There is a Holiday Inn on the beach outside Corpus on Padre Island. Galveston is OK I guess. Or we could all head to South Padre. Gotta take my wife to the coast sometime this summer.

Otherwise I am up for anything. I live in DFW area. There is a Taurus SHO meet happening here in Cresson at the Motorsport ranch. I could see if they would like to combine with us. Owner of the track told me about it.

I think going to the coast would be awesome... but my SC disagrees... I've seen too many cars come back from the coast... they have those nasty water spots on the paint and the carpets are covered in sand...
unless we plan on staying off the beach... Sounds good to me though.. i think it would be a lot of fun... what would we be doing as far as events? surely we can hang out in the hotel parking lot, but is there a drag strip or car shows or even a nice well known road for a good cruise? any more opinions on this??

Doug Franklin
07-08-2003, 04:17 AM
Don't know what is down there. I am checking into the road race course with the SHO folks up here in DFW. Don't think you guys are too interested in doing some turning instead of dragging, but hey it can be fun. Your right about the beach. Tore up a company car steering rack with all the sand driving.

At least 2 of the 3 we have running I could drive a distance.

Maybe we could have a meet in Dallas... i think there is a track in the south west area near Ennis or something??? That may be the same course your talking about... when is the SHO meet? maybe we could just meet together up there, go for a cruise, and maybe we can hang out at somebodys house up there, check out the SC's and maybe we could do a little work on them too if anything needs fixing. Who would be up for Dallas??

Doug Franklin
07-09-2003, 04:11 AM
Yes Ennis is the big drag strip. I will have to check into the SHO event at the road course in Cresson SSW of Ft Worth. I have a big yard at my house if the better half doesn't mind. I have never been to Ennis strip but that would be cool. I will try to do some checking, but give me some time. Will let you know as soon as I know about the SHO event as well.

Sounds good.. hope to hear more about this soon...
maybe we should start a new thread in the SCCoAGC chapter forum for plans of a Dallas meet soon..? it would probably be good to start the thread with info and details about what will be going on at the track in ennis in the near future, as well as the SHO event. We need more people to say they will be able to make it, so lets try to start looking at specific dates.

Ok I just got back from unexpected CA trip for work. I am getting no response from the SHO group at the raod track. Will try to look into Ennis, but have family in town this week and next. Gee summertime is busy, and it is way too hot. TCCoA has been asking around.

I took the liberty of posting on the SHO boards in the Lone Star SHO Club section. They are planning a getogether on Sept. 13th, looks like the cost will be $95 each for lessons and numerous trips around the track. I'd really like to get in on this so I asked them, we'll see what they have to say.

Glad someone has time as I can't get a manifold sent to you.

Cool I will see what I can do at MS Ranch, which is where no response. It may be full. You will need to wear a helmet which you can rent as needed, if they have enough. Big thing guys is watching the temp gauge. I am not sure if my 95 was a good example due to back pressure, but you need to do all you can on cooling for the final 30 min session. I could never get through it without cool off laps. More later if this works.

I started a new thread for this meet with a letter from the owner of Motorsport Ranch. I hope you guys come and make this happen. I hope to have 2-4 cars and drivers if needed in an SC. So we need more as the SHO guys have 8 so far. If we open it to Mustangs they will take over. I still do not know how to link another thread but search in our forum and you will find it.

See everyone on the 30th! Gotta load up on floppies for the camera, bring the charger for the battery, backdrop for group portraits etc. Should be able to bring 2 SC's (black of course).

We'll have 2-3 lawnchairs, a cooler, lots of tools, what else we need?

What's the headcount?

Quote from DFW-SHO Club forum:
"For those that are participating with the Motor Sport Ranch on Sept. 13th we need to start collecting the money for the event. The money needs to be in two weeks before the event. There is two reasons for this, one is to secure the date for us, the second reason is when we show up out there there isn't the hassle of 20 to 32 people having to stand in line paying for the event, or having the MSRs phone lines tied up taking credit card numbers. This way we SHO up before 1:00pm the day of the event and start the event right away. Murphy has a paypal account that everyone needs to send their money to and he will get a cashiers check ready for me to take out to MSR.

Murph's paypal account is murphymike @ hotmail.com again Murph's paypal account number is his email address. The cost is $95. plus 3% paypal fee.

Don"

At MSR I met with Don today from the DFW-SHO Club. Or Lone Star SHO Club. Anyway he had one of the instructors drive his SHO around the track and explain a little more. Don told me 5 people have paid, which will become the head count officially. He had 10 SHOcars commit initialy. I will PayPal for 2 SCs soon.

Is this enough to do for this weekend or do you guys want a drag race or something as well? I am up to my eye balls in work, and any spare time will be spent getting ready. We can gather at my house and maybe put some up for the night, Cathy willing.

I put in a 15 minute and 25 minute session on the race track today with a 90 SC AOD. It works fine. In fact I was smoother than with my 95. I never overheated, but did blow some antifreeze. Guys these cars are a lot of fun on a road race track. Wish some of you would come try it out. I can put up a few if needed. I will check to see how many have paid for 9-13-03.:D

The DFW-SHO Club along with the DFW chapter of the Lincoln LS Club is putting this event together.

There is another event happing that day as well, out at Texas Motor Speedway north of Ft. Worth they are running laps for charity. For $25. you can get on the track in your own vehicle and drive 3 laps. I went out with the LS Club in May of this year and did that, man was that a blast.

The DFW-SHO Club is planning to have a brunch somewhere in Ft. Worth around 10:30am then head out to MSR for the event out there that starts at 1:00pm. Around 7:30pm when we should be finished at MSR we will get some chow just north of Ft. Worth then head out to TMS and do the laps for charity.

All you that have never driven anything but a straight line need to join us for these 2 events. After this you will love driving your cars even more.
