Code Reader

Hey Bill, do you have a code reader I can borrow for an SC that I am looking at buying (the check engine light is on).

Thanks

Re: Code Reader

what is a code reader?
can this re-program the computer with out spending any money. i owed a nissan 300zx before this SC and there was something simular to that on the market. a paper clip bend would short the computer. upon restart & a short RIP for 5 mins. would re-learn the computer to these "new" settings on this RIP.

Re: Code Reader

No. You are thinking of a tuner, or custom burnt chip. This "code reader" is a home-use version of what Ford used to pull fault codes from the EEC VI.

It plugs into the EEC test port and emits a series of light flashes which translate into numbers. Those numbers then correspond to a book of Ford error codes.

Hence, having the "check engine" light on means the computer will spit a code to help with diagnoses. That is also why it is called a diagnostic tool.

Ford code reader at Canadian Tire = $39.99
One trip to the dealer = $90.00

"for everything else, there is the Canadian Tire Options MasterCard" ;)

Re: Code Reader

The code reader is only $40? Oh <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/embarassed.gif ALT=""> . I'll just pick one up Bill. I might need it again sometime (hope not).

Thanks anyway.
