I am new to the forum, and want to build a sc to put in the 13's. Im not sure if im going to go with a mustang or sc for my weekend racer. Im kind of compairing a few things first. Well anyways, what is needed to put a sc into the 13's? Thanks.

325-350 rwhp and a whole bunch of money. SCs are not cheap to mod... if you want to race, you will get there much fast and less expensively with a mustang.

I'll agree with half of that. You don't need that kind of power to run 13.9's, or even 13.5's for that matter. Neibert is right around that 350 RWHP mark, and is running 12.5's and under. However, yeah, the money part is right on.

Actually, if you want what everyone else has and have it be basic with lots of support, go with the Stang.

But if you want something different, and yet have support, and inexpensive, stick with the SC, but replace the engine with a 351 or big block 460 and build it up like crazy.

the body is heavy, but with a big motor, strong transmission, and well built rear end, you would have no trouble getting into the 12's, for a lot less than all the bolts on and build up the 3.8V6 would take.

Yes, building the 3.8V6 is a challenge, and success is that much sweeter, but if you want to do it for a low cost, and still be different, I'd use the SC body, and then a big motor.

Neibert has layed down 371 rwhp.

Mid 13's takes about 275rwhp. 325rwhp should net 12's. If you want to race and don't know that much about this, get a Mustang. Much cheaper to learn on. SC's are fun to drive but not the best race cars.

but I think a lot of the problem with SC's is that they all have a real tight suspension/handling set-up. Which is great for road racing but just kills your 1/4 time. Stangs can run 13's on 250rwhp sometimes even less..that depends on the car and especially the driver. Its all about pwer/to weight ratio..then once you get that where you want it you have to learn to put the power to the ground. I know guys with 350+ rwhp that have a hard time getting into the high 12's. Your mph @ the end of your run and your 60' will be your biggest signs of traction issues. Good Luck

FWIW, I pulled a 12.9 with only 316 rwhp. You won't need 350 rwhp to get into the 12's. I also managed mid-13's with only bolt-ons, but I don't have any dyno information from that engine....well, it did dyno 242 rwhp, but I'm pretty sure I added a few mods after that.

I think that solid 13's could be had for about $2000.

12's cost about $8-10K total.

11's cost about $20K.

I think we need to elaborate on this. Given I am a newbie when it comes to my bird, but I like to entertain the fact I have some knowledge when it comes to cars. I would just like to know what mods for under 2k would get me into the 13s?

Some mods you can't really avoid. Like exhaust, MAF, intake, TB. The engine needs to breathe. All together that will cost you at least $500-700. After that, there are probably two different approaches that you could take.

You could spend a pile of money on bolt-ons like upgraded blower and FMIC or double IC.

Or you could spend a pile of money on heads/cam.

I don't know if anyone has done a hp/$ type comparison but I would bet the heads/cam has more "bang for the buck". Especially if you do the R/R yourself and just pay for the machine work.

Or you could buy a used Mustang for $1000, and put in $1000 in mods and go 13's...

I completely agree with that. If you want to go fast cheap, buy a fox mustang. If you want some speed, but a nice ride and options galore but a bird. My mustang was running high 13s and the only mods I had were gears and a pro 5.0 shifter.
