Hign current fuse burnt up..

My 94 overheated the other day as I pulled into my driveway. I checked and the puller fan was not working. Checking further, the high current 60A fuse was burnt and the block somewhat melted. I got the old fuse out and cleaned up, trying a different fuse but the fan still does not work. I recently had the R134 replaced and the A/C was working great afterward. Anyone have any ideas what may have caused this? Or how to repair it? Any thoughts are much appreciated. Thanks....

On my 94 I noticed the sam ething..However I had replaced the fuse and fan worked fine..Perhaps the relay is shot

I don't know about the 94 but when the fan on my 90 went, I had to replace the fusable link (coming off the silenoid) before it would work again. Mine was the black (16 guage) wire, about 6" long. good luck

Yes it happened on my 94, the fuse and part of the fuse box melted. It was caused by an overload from the fan motor going bad. Mine was probably helped along by the old MN12 'cool fan switch' which brings the high speed fan on early and causes a real power surge. You need to get the fan motor checked and definitely by-pass the fuse box using a fusible link (like the older models). You can connect the new link to the + bolt or buss on the side of the 94 fuse box for a power source. If the fan motor is bad, I've heard some people have got them from Auto Zone for about $100 & that a 2 speed motor from Escorts also does the job. It's worth looking around for the Siemens motors, because Ford only sells the whole fan/shroud/motor assembly for over $300.

Ok thanks all for your replies. I've been working weird hours so I have'nt been able to get back here for awhile. I'm taking it to Ford to get it checked out today. I just don't want to mess around with riggin' up. I live in the desert and I want to make sure it'd right. Plus I kinda wanna keep it original. Thanks again. I'll post what I find out.

Had same problem. Replaced a 30 amp and a high current 60 amp i I remember right. Seems as thought the main went, and then the smaller one for the pusher went from being overworked. I didn't overheat, but I lost a nice amount of coolant. And that stupid check gages light was flashing at me and dinging. Must be a ford thing, huh.

Same Thing Happened to Me

Besides the 60A fuse, the fan motor also 'burned up.' Replaced the fuse, new factory shroud/fan combo, new coolant temp. sensor and a new ICRM. Temp guage is never beyond the left side of "O" now. And it gets real hot here. Good luck.

Yep, that's what's up with mine now, too. The puller fan shorted out and caused the fuse and wire/ fuse block to burn. I checked just about every store 'round here and no one seems to offer this fan. So, Ford here I come. :( 450.00 is what they say the fan/ shroud goes for. Ouch. But what else can you do? I\m not gonna mes around with engine cooling in the desert!! thanks for the help...
